When we sign an English based manager people will recognise the name or the club's he has been at and can use his history and record to justify the appointment in their head. Because we know basically nothing about Jose we cannot do that so people were instantly sceptical. Then there's the fact he says believe a lot and has a lot of soundbites. I think this is just the language barrier really. He speaks English but whereas we may say 'i think' he says 'i believe' which we are taking as meaning something it doesn't. I believe (see what I did there) that he uses one word to use two or three things at different times. His formations. Absolutely nothing wrong with him playing what he's playing the majority of the time. We don't have a good enough midfield for 442 so mcburnie has to play wide because it's better than him not playing at all. I have disagreed with how he has set us up occasionally but in the majority of games he has good reason. Chopping and changing the squad. This is where my big issue is. I simply see no reason for it other than he hasn't got a clue who is good and who isn't. Arguably it's because none are but surely he sees them every single day so should have an idea of who is a better left back for example. I simply do not believe the excuse that players are too tired. If they are then he shouldn't be defending them, he should be berating them and saying he is disappointed with their lack of fitness. Hell, he could blame the previous coaches if he wants but to defend them makes him look silly. On the whole I have avsabsolutely no idea if he's be right man for us or not. I've seen him make some great decisions that have gained us points but I've also seen him make some crazy and terrible decisions which have cost us. I wouldn't be upset if he was sacked but I wouldn't be upset if he was kept and given a transfer window to prove himself.
Decent post. McBurnie out on left is to facilitate Moore in centre. That’s how I see it and it makes sense. Swapping players due to tiredness makes sense - we can see Moncur and Thiam struggle after 60mins from the stands - so no surprise there. The main thing - all the players wear monitoring vests. This records and feeds back GPS and heart rate details. This information tells the management team how players are performing. If players are 30% down on their benchmark figures, then yes, I can see the point in resting and rotating. Fitness is gained usually in pre-season, you can’t do much with it during season unless you have a period without games. JM therefore can only work with the stats he has. Prior to Tues, had Yiadom and Fryers had a run of outstanding games? Not really, so wasn’t much to lose in my eyes.
Swapping 4 out of your back 5 before your most important match of the season. I think if Jose had been a successful coach previously then there would be less kickback. As it stands his career has been pretty poor with a win percentage of about mid 20 percent that’s not inspiring stuff. Don’t disagree with much of the rest though.
Agree with all that but the thing the gps or whatever DOESN'T measure is confidence. I'd rather have a player who's in decent form but a bit low on energy than one who's scared silly of making a mistake no matter how fit he is. Having said that it's inexcusable that we have players who are too tired to play.
Whether he's the right man or not is irrelevant to some - he is a convenient scapegoat as I said before. Avoids having to look at the real issues.
Fair point. If you are talking about the changes though. I think only 2 of the 4 changes you mention can be argued. It was a big call, but no one could argue behind the logic of Walton coming in. And Mills being dropped wasn’t exactly a surprise either and probably the right thing to do. Fryers and Yiadom are open to debate - I do see both sides of the argument here though.
The part of that which isn't open to debate, was playing Mills before Pinnock the game before. He shouldn't have been in there to drop.
Let’s be honest if we go down he’s going to be on his way. He knows it and probably not bothered as he knows he’s going to get paid out a years salary that he won’t need to work for. Probably find another job off the back of being one of JM mates.
