No we're not. We'd won 1 in 16 when Hecky left. We're equally as poor. Which suggests to me it's the players who aren't good enough.
I agree about McBurnie being played out of position but your other points are wrong. Thiam had a shot saved that he should have put away and Moncur and (I think) Lindsay had shots clawed out of the bottom corner. Moore had a header turned round the post too. Another chance was cleared off the line. And they were all in the second half. In the first Thiam put some good crosses in. Morais has only messed with the formation once, at half-time against Burton when he went from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3.
No it won't. Selling Mawson the day before a local derby, cashing in on Roberts, allowing Scowen's contract to run down, NOT replacing said players with enough quality to compete at Championship level, plus Watkins/Hourihane/Winnall not replaced, signing Mowatt then shipping out, signing McGeehan then shipping out, signing Moncur, Mallan without playing a system that suits them, Elliott Lee, wasted - that will get us relegated. Not enthused by Morais (in)ability to change his ethos (Hammill) and 4-3-3 that doesn't work in every game, but relegation has been coming since Jan '17.
I can’t say I often agree with YN but on this he’s right. We were **** before and somehow we have got worse. Quite an achievement.
Of course I agree with all that. Especially the 01/17 bit. And I posted back then that we would struggle to survive it. But I genuinely think we have players and a squad at the club right now - after this January transfer window - that could easily take us clear of relegation. But all I’m seeing from the team right now is players playing out of position and unorganised chaos. If people take note of my posts - they will have noticed that this is the first time I’ve criticised a Barnsley manager for about 14 years !!! One thing about Patrick Cryne - he didn’t have the money to take the club forward - and he could have done more (if he could) with the players contracts - but during his time IMO he NEVER ever appointed a bad manager.
It's become quite apparent that there isn't (currently) enough quality in this squad - the heroes of 2015/16/17 were allowed to develop in League 1, the new lot don't have that luxury, not their fault. The fault of whoever decided to sign them. Hammill and McCarthy would still be in my starting XI tho
‘Time to develop’ is clearly a consideration. We have a lot of talent in this squad that given another season in the Championship would blossom eg Mallan, McGeehan, Potts, McCarthy etc etc. I have faith in all of our players. I personally don’t think we have a bad player. And I didn’t think we had a bad player before this January - my concern was always that we were short of players - especially strikers. My concern now is this - that on this evidence - this manager is totally out of his depth. I sincerely hope I’m WRONG.
This about the quality of the players is total nonsense - if they were so good we wouldn’t have been ***** under the previous manager
Stretching the realms of credibility to suggest MacGheehan is up to the Champ from next season given he’s towing to play in L1
I don’t know whether you noticed - but we didn’t get all the players we needed during the summer. We were left with only about 3/4 of a squad - and Hecky knew it. It’s as simple as this: ———————-Davis Yiadom - Lindsey - Jackson - Pinillos Hammill - Gardner - Potts - Isgrove ———— McBurnie - Moore
Today was a million times worse than owt Hecky’s teams served up. The Middlesboring game was far far worse. The Burton first half was far worse. We have gone backwards which is impressive considering we were ***** already. McBurnie is scoring goals and he would do that if my 5 year old was managing us.
