What a bizarre response. For someone who apparently enjoys debate and challenging others, you don't appear to take too kindly to your own opinions being challenged.
I’m genuinely puzzled by the way this thread has developed. I haven’t really seen any signs of folk not being amicable. The ideas Red Rain posted originally were actually opinions or presumptions ( e.g. not saying the truth, the coaches will converse in Portuguese ( paraphrases)) . He was the one who really made it mostly about himself. P.S. I reckon I might be on RR’s ignore list
But he explained quite clearly towards the end of the answer that he would not, at this stage, be able to bring in big changes to the way the team plays, to keep things simple and not to confuse the players, and that any change in system or formations would have to be introduced gradually. Certainly his English is better than his countryman Carvalhal - and I take the issue of communicating with players - but I am not sure all players are able to appreciate "nuanced points" and keeping things simple is a good thing!
Anyway, meanwhile back at the press conference. Jose's style of expression is intriguing. There can be no doubt of his footballing knowledge, given the positions he has held at some of the world's biggest clubs. But interesting that his message for the players appears to be a lot about belief. It's a bit akin to a lot of the management/motivational stuff that I guess many of us have experienced in our working lives (if we can remember them). I've been wondering how well this will work with our lot. I think though about people I've met who have attended Oxford or Cambridge (never me, I hasten to add!). They are usually (although not invariably) very clever. But what more often than not marks them out is their confidence, and their absolute belief in their right to have been there and to be doing whatever they are doing now. Our squad is not without ability if Jose can get them having that level of belief. Interesting to see how it all pans out.
Your recent posts are now aping those of a mind reader. Please carry on with your fox hunt, but perhaps you could stick to posting what you think, rather than what you think somebody else thinks? Anyway, Jose came out with the usual ****** post appointment answers when asked the usual ****** post appointment questions. Why anyone is getting hot under the collar about it is beyond me.
We all adopt nom-de-plumes when we post on here, although many know each other in real life. You can tell those who know each other in real life because their replies credit a deeper understanding of their motives and their reasoning. As far as I know, I am unknown to anyone in real life, and yet many think that they know me based upon what I post on here. Don't you think that that is a very narrow basis for claiming full knowledge of my reasoning and motive for posting what I post. We are all considerably more complex than the narrow images that we present on here, or at least I hope that we are. If you would like me to debate the phrase "owning BFC is a gateway for the new owners to capitalise on the potential not only of the club but of the wider region too", then you will have to explain what you mean in considerably more detail. I would be interested in the mechanics of how that can and will be done. Unless there is some substance to it, it is just words. Again the phrase "Chinese Soft Power" and how that relates to Barnsley FC needs to be explained in considerably more detail, otherwise it is simply a buzz phrase.
That is the first time you've bothered to consider these things. I'll come up with a post at some point so we can debate it.
Perhaps we should have appointed Guru Nanak instead. And swapped the corner flags for incense sticks. Meanwhile the Ponty end chants now have to be in the style of Neil off "The Young Ones".
I have tried to get a literal translation for that. "I am in thee and thou art in me." - was the one I found. Which might worry Hammill as he scurries past the dugout and up the wing.
What anyone who speaks a second language will tell you, is that communicating within your zone of expertise is much easier than answering open ended questions, especially ones which have quite abstract answers connected with the nuances of feelings and emotions. I can explain the subtleties of communication in the English language, and the differences between the British and Russian education systems in Russian in my sleep, but give me some quite basic emotions to discuss, especially ones which don't have an exact equivalent in Russian and I can still sound quite stilted. Ditto when I had to explain to a police officer a few years back what had happened during a very run of the mill car accident (I was shunted in the rear). There were never any issues understanding Jose Morais in that interview, he makes very few grammatical or stylistic errors, and his pronunciation is extremely clear. I have no doubt that when discussing his area of expertise, he will be perfectly able to get his point across. Compare that with Leonid Slutsky, a highly intelligent and articulate man in his own language, who to be honest I would struggle to understand half the time in English if I didn't know Russian. That's no slur on Slutsky by the way, his English is still a bloody sight better than my Russian was after a year of study!
I am really looking forward to the game tomoz it's a do or die Jobby - be interesting to see the set up and the response and how the new gaffer gets on - I dun't know anyone on here on here but maybe I talk to people who are on here I dun't know - but I do know if you know what I mean !!! A bit deep for me all this debate but nowt against it - however I think it is a bold appointment and time will tell - I am however well excited by the appointment it shows ambition and a longer term vision - as for complex - I am not - I say wot I mean - complex people say wot they think they mean !!
This exactly. He actually has wafer thin skin - he has a view of the current ownership, and dresses it up in flowery prose, which once analysed has zero substance, and has an attack of the vapours when this is pointed out to him. Actually quite a vacuous individual imho. *edit - this will be more evidence of how the proles can't compete with his high level thinking and resort to insults etc etc.
I understand your reservations, but I'm not sure you can say his answer was terrible. Typical, maybe, but not terrible. And to be fair, I've lived in Barnsley all my life and if I was asked to describe the experience, then "challenging" wouldn't be too far off the mark.
As a further aside, did anyone else think that his accent sounded more Brazilian-Porugese than Portugese-Portugese?
