That's the bit that concerns me. Very naive. However much you believe your staff are here for the duration of their contract, you can't take it for granted. In any business it's called succession planning / continuity planning. Seems we have none, at least when it comes to the position of team manager / head coach. We have been taken totally by surprise and that emotion should be reserved for the fans, not the folk who run the club. To not have a clue what criteria manager we would chase in the event of PH leaving is nothing short of negligence IMHO. At the very least it looks weak. Not happy about that, but hey, fully behind the team this weekend.
Suppose it just shows they had no intention of sacking him. I don't think you can constantly plan what to do if a manager leaves. Circumstances at the time will dictate that. And ultimately in an't job market you first have to identify who is actually willing to do the job first.
Possibly the league position we've been left in has made them broaden their horizons a bit. Or he's trying to quell speculation - if he specifies a certain 'type' of manager then it possibly lets the cat out the bag, and possibly shuts off a very good candidate from another demographic.
Heckingbottom was on a one year rolling contract. If he knew before he signed the improved contract he was on his way to Leeds then what was in it for him? One week's higher wages here? Hardly seems any point. If he signed the new contract then, maybe, we get a higher compensation fee commensurate with his increased wages.
He accounted for 78 out of the 100 applications, each one identical - he applies for jobs in the same way as he posts on here.
No sorry dont care if it was 4 days 2 weeks or even 2 years he went to Leeds, ripped away most of the first team coaching staff without a thought to the club he's supposed to support and have shown him more patience than any other club would have given the last 12 months results. Also the supporters showed patience and understanding to his situation how many clubs supporters would have still been singing his name in a positive way after 4 home wins in 12 months yet did he thank us for that support did he hell. He acted like a complete **** this week and will always be a **** in my book
Have said the same myself. What I hope is the club actually do have preferred choices in mind and know exactly who and in what order they will approach them. However to reveal that weakens their position or doesn’t look good if preferred choices reject the chance. Fair play to GG. He’s hardly had an easy ride for a relatively inexperienced and young lad. He steers us through this period and he deserves plenty of plaudits.
"Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, once of Liverpool, said on Monday Night Football that Barnsley need somebody who has never worked in the game before but who is able to parrot platitudes derived from Sky Sports in lieu of knowledge. The former Anfield man, who played for the Merseyside outfit, etc."
For me hes gone. End of. I think he is a great coach and a great manager and its a shame to lose him but **** happens. We obviously weren't moving fast enough or giving him as many resources as he wanted so he's made his mind up hes not sticking around. Whether ti will work out for him thats to be seen but n reason why it shouldn't if he gets what he wants. Won say good luck as hes gone to leeds but it will be interesting to see if what he makes of it. Its left us in a tricky position but its a chance for fresh ideas and a shake up. Sometimes companies/teams need that in order to kick start them onto new paths. We will find that some people (staff) wont like it but these are the ones that were in their comfort zones and they will probably the ones to leave because it means they are now going to have to work a damn sight harder to stay in the team and mangers plans. We will have some bumps in the road but I think we'll come out of it the sunny side up. All we need to do this season is stay up ad focus on getting the points we need on the board like Flitcroft did. Hoping it does go down to the last minute of the season again but hey ho what a finish that was. Just sitting back now to see who the club appoint. Its an interesting one. I also think they want to see how Paul Harsley does first. Fingers crossed we batter the dee dars on Saturday.
I'd be surprised if it was made public knowledge as it would either dispel rumour, or get closer to proving them. We've tended to sack managers more than them being poached, can only think of Danny, Johnson and now. With Danny and Johnson I recall the wording saying we'd given permission for talks and compensation had been agreed. Similar to if a bid for a player came in. This time, the wording was so very different and that's whats leading to speculation together with the incredible speed of it, something we wouldn't associate with him based on how drawn out his two contracts with us have been.
The ultimate troll i'd love to see is Leeds get beat on Saturday and Hecky appear on the betting shortlist for the vacant managers job with us
I want us to score 4 and Leeds to score 0 , just to satisfy me he has taken the shackles he had on the players with him as well.
The club shouldn't have been caught by surprise if Fecky asked for and was given a release clause. It demonstrated that the thought of leaving was in his mind. New positions come up almost on a weekly basis, so one that suited him was bound to come along sooner or later.
Our new manager will be like an elephant. Hard for us to describe at the mo, but we'll know him when we see him.
