GG hasn’t ruled out appointing a mgr from overseas, but adds they don’t have a specific profile of manager (young, old, champ exp) in mind. GG says they’ve have had over 100 applications for the vacant post, over half are credible applicants. GG confirms PH actually signed the contract a couple of weeks before announcement. So the idea that PH signed it on Friday, only to leave on Monday was incorrect. GG is adamant they did enough to try and keep PH, both with his contract and with recruitment.
Still doesn't clarify how he has "lost out" on the money from the new contract? I don't get that comment at all. (From PH)
Agree, them trying their best to keep Hecky with contract and recruitment flies in the face of people running them down.
Presumably because the new contract is at a higher rate - and he was ready to sign as long ago as last March, according to the Chronicle.
We could learn a lesson from Leeds then. They managed to get 4 people to sort contracts out in less than 18 hours and 3 of them presumably couldn't make a decision until Hecky had agreed. Lightening fast stuff.
Not sure it really alters people's perception of the respect that either that contract or the club and it's fans appear to have been afforded, by virtue of such a hasty inconsiderate and undignified departure.
Probably signed contract at the time of Patrick passing away, but delaying the announcement until a time of respect has been given.
Not at all. In fact he strikes me as a stroppy bugger, listening to his radio interviews. But the time difference does make a difference to the claim that he knew Leeds were going to make their approach before he signed - unless he's become Mystic Meg.
I think people will have to make their own mind up on that one. But I think we could do to be less emotional and more rational about it.
As I've said before I do understand his reasoning but the nature of it is horrible. Saying we are the winners really is down right disrespectful, he's left us well and truly in the brown stuff. At least be man enough to say I know I have left Barnsley in a difficult position but I have to look after myself.
See, this is where it all unravels for me. He doesn't sign a contract that would make him better off for almost a year (allegedly), yet the obvious reason he sprints out of the door to Leeds is a significant increase in money despite very short term stability. It just doesn't stack up at all.
Things don't really add up to me. I mean, why would the club wait a few weeks to announce the new deal if it had been signed and sealed?
I think anyone of sanity would look at Leeds and balance risk. Whats most likely to happen... I get sacked in 6 months and get a huge payoff. Whats worst case scenario.... I get sacked in 2 weeks and I get a huge payoff. Best case scenario, I somehow get them in the Premier League, get a payrise, and get sacked for a name manager soon after.... getting a huge pay off. So all ways up, he gets a huge pay off. The likelihood of the last thing happening is as likely as Alex Ferguson coming out of retirement to manage us til the end of the season.
Mebbe its darn to ambition with the money just being an added benefit. Mebbe the contract so we received more money from Leeds and we have had a manager who could have been earning more for many months. Not what folk might want to hear or believe but possible none the less.
