"Agree with all the sentiments on here... a total non-starter. I would also argue that Barnsley are no bigger a club than we are - or at least becoming. DC/NC would be crackers to go there - and they're not crackers so they won't! The only time I would worry is if a Championship club with real pedigree came in for them - i.e. someone like Forest, Ipswich or Norwich. And obviously, if a PL team came calling, that would also be a definite head-turner. However, we all know that the Prem teams much prefer a Carlos Kickaball-type than a homegrown manager, so I can't see that happening unless/until we reach the Championship." Proper strange breed in Lincolnshire though, go days without seeing another human. Suspect that cannibalism has caused early onset dementia with that posting.
The rest of the thread is full of 'nothing to worry about, they aren't going anywhere' etc. I hope they're right, it would be a disaster.
Mmmm...well 8600 ain't bad for the division below tbh...what did we pull in on average when we were down there recently/?
Agree, a brief successful period at that level will be very difficult to bring 2 levels higher. He might be a genius but not sure we can be his next training project.
No bigger than Lincoln. Aye, alright. Remind me when we were last in the fifth division, playing village teams?
Blimey - well stop dissing them then. Such a nice place too (**** traffic probs though). Admittedly unless expansion plans are in the offing then in League 1 a proportion of the supporters will need to stand on each others shoulders, but you must recognise a sleeping Lincoln green giant when you see one.
This takes deluded to another level. They were relegated from the 3rd tier the same season as our Allan Clarke inspired promotion from the 4th tier in 1978/79. Our paths haven't crossed (League Cup apart) and we've remained above them, usually by several divisions, ever since. I don't want their sodding manager anyway. We need someone who knows the division in our current plight.
Lived in Lincoln for 9 years and can confirm its because there's absolutely nothing else to do there. They also have a vast, flat, empty county to draw people from & it wasn't anywhere near that figure til they had that cup run last year.
Best part is when he says about ‘pedigree’ and they should be worried then. Slags off Barnsley then lauds Ipswich!
Look at them over the past 40 years, more folk watch the Pikeys. Flash in the pan crowds this season http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/linc.htm
When we were in the second Division with them in the 50s, their gates were substantially lower than ours. Grimsby and Lincoln generally had similar attendances. From an Oldie hth.
I was reading their board and that thread last night. My favourite part: The difference between Barnsley and Lincoln is Barnsley are already at the end of their journey, they have Max'd out. We're at the beginning of one!
They haven't been at our level since 1961 and haven't averaged over 10,000 since 1960. I know a Lincoln fan and he's a proper, down to earth fan who knows exactly where they sit in the football pyramid. He'd be embarrassed by that post. I imagine it's from one of their new found imp army.
