There are features on the Tarn photo that are no longer there. Not that he would’ve lived anywhere near Tarn anyway had he signed.

Whats the matter.... its just like pit street when it rains.... ;-)

This is the thing when signing overseas players. The area has no lure, the position we're in isn't attractive, so it comes down to who else wants them and how much we can pay.

Til we've increased revenue to compete more, (plus agents know we've been bought by multi billionaires), I think we might struggle in that market.

so why are we putting a lot of eggs in that basket then surely the people in charge can see that may be an issue?

I'd guess having a French CEO and the suggestion of "look what the owners have done with Nice" are part of the pitch now. But if a young player is used to a certain lifestyle, its a huge shift to come to us. Some may do and hopefully enjoy it, but I can't blame them for choosing say a Rome, Marseille or even Bristol as a better destination if they come knocking unless our money is much higher that it entices

    Alternatively:
Come to Barnsley and play in the 3rd most popular and watched league in the world.
Or stay in Amiens and play in a Micky Mouse pisspot league ???

Stay in Amiens all day long ,it's about lifestyle for them , they dont even know where Barnsley is . You can imagine the initial approach.
"Barnsley are interested in signing you "
    "Who?"
"They are a North of England 2nd division club"
    "Is that near London "
    "No"
"How much are they willing to pay me?"
    "7 thousand euros a week"
"Sounds interesting we'll go and have a look "
"It's a **** hole and grey and pissing with rain "
"Taxi to the airport Mr taxi driver"

    Maybe so.
But I've never heard of Amiens before - and I would imagine the vast majority of Barnsley fans are the same - and other than Paris and a few wildlife sites I don't know where anything is in France because it's a country I have no interest in what so ever.

Yeah a tough decision isn’t it... come live and work in a sh*thole (and that’s being kind) and play against mediocre players, or live in a beautiful area and play against players like neymar cavani depay etc.

How ever would someone make such a difficult decision.

Got to agree that Barnsley Town Centre is a sh.it hole and that has to be laid at the doors of Barnsley Council leaders and officers.
Things can't get any worse regarding the town centre.
But not all of the surrounding area is like that.
And we have Sheffield and Leeds on our doorsteps which are great cities - even tho we hate their football teams.

There is some beautiful country in the Barnsley district, just today I walked round Hoylandswain, Silkstone Village and Cawthorne the country side looked amazing with views to die for, it's a taxi for Blobby I think .

    This thread is absolutely nuts.
    • There’s no reason he’d have to live in Barnsley
    • Barnsley is very nice, particularly certain areas on the outskirts
    • That stupid comment about being near London, like Manchester Sheffield Leeds isn’t a draw if you’re after a City
    • The Yorkshire countryside shits all over northern France for beauty
    • Yes there are 2-3 decent teams in that league but the rest are below championship standard so the quality of football isn’t better, no

    Have some ******* pride.

I totally understand and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else . But look at it from his position he's never been here and as a 20 odd year old footballer from France he doesn't give a **** about our countryside. Taxi for PLOBBY btw not Blobby .

You’re talking like Amiens is a bubbling metropolis. Again if he wants city living there’s 3 big cities in easy commuting distance. If he doesn’t give a **** about the countryside then he must hate it there.

Then why waste time and money to come over then? He would’ve been well aware of ‘Mediocre players’ and knew he wouldn’t ‘play against players like neymar cavani I depay etc’

You can rightly argue there are some beautiful areas of France The Somme region wouldn't really rank up there. It's good for visiting the old trenches but unless you live and work there it's just a place to drive through to get somewhere else.

    It’s currently being re-developed, of course it’s a mess
