    I would’ve thought the player would be able to delay his service until May / June time but then again if he’s like most young footballers they’ve probably already booked Marbella / Dubai / Vegas for then

    Must admit when I did it I was lucky - just a common assault case - photos of the victim weren't great viewing but it was "only" bad bruising and swelling etc. No idea why the person that did it didn't just plead guilty - the evidence was overwhelming but it took 2 days for the trial and at least afterwards they told us not to come back again for the rest of the 2 weeks.

    I'd have thought a Footballer could get it deferred to close season if he wanted to though it probably depends on the Judge especially as footballers only work at weekends and occasionally evenings :)

    I only got called up once in my life. The judge had a look on here, saw that I was a "happy clapper" and thought I'd let the bloke off, so I got thrown off the jury.

    The thing is , the wages of the person who is on jury service is paid by the state , therefore , if they called up professional footballers up on a regular basis it would cost the tax payers a fortune . I incidentally did jury service & enjoyed the experience

    For the first couple of weeks of jury service the maximum you can claim is basically the minimum wage. It then starts to go up but even after a year of jury service it would be a league 2 footballers wage at best.

    If you are employed , you get paid off your employer & the employer claims your wages back., no employer for example is going to pay someone £10 an hour & accept minimum wage back in compensation . If you are self employed its a different ball game

    It is completely optional whether or not an employer chooses to pay for their employees to do jury service.

    You obviously know more about it than me but I am only telling you what happened with me, my employers paid me & then claimed back off the state & I repeat , I cannot see any employer being prepared to take a loss on having a worker taken away from them for a minimum of two weeks & paying for the privelidge

    I seem to recall that my Aunt was given unpaid leave and didn’t manage to recoup her salary, as far as I’m aware.

    Well I can only tell you what the law is. Employers cannot claim back wages if they voluntarily choose to pay wages for an employee who is away on jury service, it really is as simple as that.

    I was lucky I got my wages paid by my employer also I managed to work most days as I want needed but I am fairly sure they couldn’t claim it back
