Thanks means a lot. Just out of interest do you feel you've had good value money for your ST in 2017?
In case it’s escaped your notice I’m in the navy, I work in Plymouth and live in Portsmouth. I don’t have a season ticket instead I mainly attend away games and pay/receive free tickets for about 6 home games a year. Yes I’ve enjoyed 2017, value for money depends on however you choose to measure value surely. Remember your season ticket guarantees you entry to Oakwell 23 times a year and in that respect you’ve received exactly what was offered to you in exchange for your hard earned. It’s been a challenge on the pitch for sure but one I think that’s been largely tackled head on by a management team intent on trying their best.
I'm not being citrical of the management. Your first paragraph sums it up. You don't go to home games unless you receive free tickets. Explains why you are such a vociferous defender of the club. Maybe you should respect the opinions of those who chose to pay their hard earned to go.
I’ve enjoyed my time watching Barnsley since he bought/saved the club. I thank him for that. And for putting in his hard earned money, and obviously taking on far more risk than any season ticket holder financially. I just hope he has got back majority of what he has put in. When is a good time to assess the tenure for every owner over the past 130 years? I would say Patrick stands up to the majority of them. Thanks Patrick. Been a ride. Plenty of ups, plenty of downs. But especially the 12 months I think I enjoyed as much as any since our promotion to top flight. I hope he can enjoy the rest of your life peacefully. And thanks once again for ensuring we’ve had a club to support all this time.
Can’t answer for him but I will for me. Yes. I bought a season ticket for me and my son this season in the full knowledge that we would be watching a young unproven team trying desperately to get up to the required level. In my heart obviously I hoped they’d click straight into gear and be comfortable in upper mid table. In my head though I thought the first half of the season would see us constantly in the bottom three with some improvement in the second half, but a struggle throughout. The fact it is somewhere in between is testament to the hard work of Hecky and the coaching setup below him. I think we had a run of form early doors which was over and above the realistic expectations and limitations of the team and have since run out of steam and got found out a bit. I still think we are higher So back to the question. I think the price paid compared to most other championship and even league one clubs was very fair, I knew exactly what I was buying. It isn’t as though the club has hidden what it’s modus operandi has been; it can be no shock to anyone. And I’ll renew this year assuming my circumstances allow. I think that will be for championship football, but I will support them in league one as well. And I expect the price they will charge will again represent comparatively to other clubs excellent value.
You couldn’t be further from the truth! But that doesn’t fit in with your opinion does it. Did you not read or understand? I don’t got to many home games because I work in Plymouth, when I’m not in Plymouth I’m away at sea, this makes it pretty hard to get there! There’s a scheme called ticket for troops which (if you are quick) let’s you attend 3 home games per year, look out in the pointy on row H, about seats 125 you’ll see some service men and women there, those that aren’t working away or deployed somewhere. Maybe you should respect people in general after some of the bile I’ve seen you spill.
I do because it's cheap. It's been crap, but I have no expectations when I buy the ticket. Actually, maybe I do, I expect the players to try and I think the vast majority of them do. Lack of talent not lack of effort is letting us down. That hasn't been the case in many seasons this century. We've had a lot of players just go through the motions. Most of this current lot are much more professional than that. Would I feel I was getting value for money if I was paying on a match by match basis? No, and I probably wouldn't be going. Attracting those who can't go every week for whatever reason (financial or other commitments) and those who have a more casual relationship with the club is a tough ask at the prices we charge and the football we're serving up. Not that we're any more expensive than any other club, I'm talking about the cost of football in general. I've been going all my life and will continue to do so finances, health and location permitting, but I couldn't recommend a Saturday afternoon at Oakwell as an entertaining and good value day out at the moment. It would be entirely disingenuous.
The Tenure of the Cryne family as custodians continues to some degree with James on the Board. I see it as good tenure and shudder to think about the alternative had The Cryne family not become involved when they did. 2017 has overall been very disapointing in both performances and results. 2016 was a great year was it not? However, because I am a fan and will go to most if not every home game I buy a season ticket. Most football supporters know that supporting a club is a roller coaster ride. I’m looking forward to this next phase, and hopefully we will see the necessary required improvements in performances and consistency which will result with a climb away from the drop zone sooner rather than later. Accept the not everyone shares the same views as you, do you have to have a dig ‘Saint Custodian’
I understand why you can't get to games and there's no problem with that. However, what's important is that we've established that in any given year you make no notable contribution to the club, yet you are quite happy to post here sniping at those who do. Maybe you should show those people a bit of respect. This is not a question of someone being a better supporter by the way - there are plenty of people who can't get to games for one reason and another, but the people who see Cryne as the saviour should ask where the club would be without the 10,000 who turn up week in out, and maybe show these people a bit of humility.
Sure, let us evaluate the custodian. Is the club still in business? Is the club still in the Championship? Has the club been safely delivered into the hands of a promising new custodian? By what possible criteria was the previous regime anything but an outstanding success?
The huge majority of those 10,000 that turn up week in week out also see Patrick Cryne as the saviour of the club. There's a tiny segment that seem to think he was in it for the money. They're usually the people who keep spouting the speculate to accumulate line and quote the 100 million quid on offer if we go up. So if PC was in it for the money how come he didnt do what you wanted to get promoted and then cash in on the 100 million instead of just getting his money back? The truth is he did his best for the club and has left us in a position few of us could ever have dreamed of. A club with extremely wealthy owners with the wherewithal to push us up a level.
Anyone who thinks they are not getting value for money from their season ticket will learn from their experience & not renew next season , those of us who take the opposite point of view , will probably renew .
Season tickets are too good value, but not for the reason you are asking. The supporters who haven't got the time to attend enough games are subsidising those that do to a certain extent with the current pricing strategy.
Does it say on the season ticket that you're guaranteed fantastic winning football? As far as I'm aware it merely gives you access to 23 games of football. If you have expectations that you don't think are covered by that I'd suggest not buying one and spending the money on something you'll enjoy instead.
