You’re talking about one game yesterday about a player who has played 11 games for Barnsley. I’m talking about a player who I’ve seen play over 100 games and on the whole has shown poor distribution that isn’t improving.
Yes exactly that. Taken out of the team to practice and practice something without pressure until he becomes better at it.
Sadly not too easy with keepers and Townsend has had months and months to improve and is still no where near.
Townsend looked better than Davies in the press season friendlies. Not sure if Davies has lost all confidence in the defence or if they've lost all confidence in him but the communication between him and them is none existent. Collided with Lindsay, had a mixup with pinnock, mix up with fryers. They had their backs turned to him when he had the ball, he wasn't looking for them when they wanted it. Something has to give and I think that has to be dropping him for a while to keep him on his toes. If Townsend isn't capable of playing in the 6th minute 9f a game he shouldn't be on the bench and coming on in the 60th is Davies gets a red. A keeper is either capable of going in goals or he shouldn't be on the books
Not necessarily. We’ve seen a number of players being given the chance to play their way out of bad form this season.
I'm talking about a player who has his limitations, yes but without.those would be playing at a higher level. He's shown for a full season that he can release the ball early to players who will take it. I'm not saying his distribution is brilliant.. just that he, more than any other player on the pitch is reliant on others being capable.of receiving. We have a problem all over the pitch of players not wanting the ball in pressure situations. If you say Davies' distribution is bad then so is everyone's because we'e losing the ball off virtually every throw in.
I agree with you to an extent. The problem we have with our wage budget is getting 2 keepers at a level to compete for a place. Realistically you will be paying one to sit on the bench. I do think we need more competition than Townsend though. Is back myself and my Dodgy back above him.
Davies has shown how good he is and I'm confident he'll play his way out of this loss of form - the same way as the rest of the team. The thing about keepers is that when a team is low on confidence and not playing well they can't hide. When they get no protection from the players in front of them they are more likely to make mistakes because they're under pressure so often. And when they make mistakes it's often punished, especially at this level. He needs competition but I still think he's a good championship keeper.
Fair enough but he's played George moncur consistently when he's been absolutely bone idle. He won't drop Davies no matter how bad he plays. Yiadom is in even when he's toss. All managers have their favourites, it's human nature and I do t think hecky is any different to the rest
Davies understanding of distribution and execution of distribution has always been poor. There’s a reason why he’s still at Barnsley and whilst I’m grateful he is because his shot stopping makes him good enough to be a Championship keeper he’s not good enough to get a move anywhere better and be number one.
I’m not sure Townsend is as bad as people think. He played around the time when Sam Winnall used to play on the wing. Everyone looked ***** then particularly Alfie Mawson who is now Premier League.
I take the point though both Winnall and Mawson still looked like actual professional footballers rather than someone who had won a prize to play for the day.
