You're not wrong about it being a bold move for SH....I've always viewed him as the ultimate fence-sitter, I think it shows though the total loss of confidence in Sheffield, particularly whilst Julie Dore remains in post .
That side of things is interesting particularly as you would have thought SH was a shoe-in for mayor of Sheffield Region whereas he won’t get anywhere near a Yorkshire wide one if it ever comes to fruition. But yes I’d see him as the ultimate fence sitter myself so he must either very sincerely believe it is the right choice or that the Sheffield option is definitely the wrong one. Julie is a lovely woman to be fair (on a personal level) but was too inexperienced when she took charge and was pigeonholed into some decisions on the back of advice that she probably regrets. The budgetary pressures on SCC are pretty phenomenal to be honest. They are struggling to provide even their statutory legal obligations.
