Hecky has my 100% support. He makes mistakes, he’s not infallible but what he’s done and what he’s had to deal with in is relatively short tenure give him plenty of credit in the bank. Some may ask what he has had to deal with so in no particular order; 1. The wanton demolition of a team, made worse in the case of such as Scowen who we barely bothered to offer a contract to. 2. Sale of club captain when not under pressure to do so, all because the plan must be followed 3. Below par recruitment AGAIN, meaning players arrive too late and then there isn’t enough of them 4. Taking on the job of at least two people when the former CEO inexplicably left. There’s probably more but you get the idea. And none of it is down to where he’s from. I’d not blame him one bit if he went for the next decent job.
This with ******* nobs on, miracle he's got us this far with what he's had to put up with, any one slating him can **** right off in my opinion, sithi.
You could have gone a bit further on point three by saying that of the players we brought in not one was of proven Championship quality.
I still believe the strategy is 100% infallible though. There's no evidence for that. I just want to believe it.
Directors because IMO the other directors had a say in the decisions. And I'm saying this with FULL respect to all those directors. In the past they have made some terrible decisions - I'm not talking about selling players - I'm talking about player contracts here. So People need to LEAVE OFF Hecky and just take a minute to think about what this person has achieved.
With the number of outgoings last season and limited money available + the debacle with the McBurnie transfer and lack of options up front I think he's doing a sterling job. Some forget it's what we do over the course of the season that matters and not a week. Rewind to before the international break 7 points from a possible 9. Our aim this season is to stay up with the hope we can retain most of our players and build on the nucleus of the squad in the next 2 transfer windows. We've only been pumped a few times this season and remain competitive in most games, there's been a number of games where we've simply had no luck, when's the last time we scored a goal like Wednesdays, norwich's & cardiffs which all cost us points. There's very few managers about who could work with our budget the way Hecky does it's just going to be a up/down sort of season. Just remember we've seen some excellent counter attacking football this season, our squad is leaps and bounds beyond that of when we got relegated. Bring on Reading
Recruitment ? ........ 'not enough of them' ??? Why ??? ...... what about the 5 goalkeepers that we are getting ??? But seriously - we recruited brilliantly in the summer - but it was clearly obvious in the summer that we failed when it came to adding enough different types of strikers to give Hecky enough options to alter things as much as he should be able to. I know we hate them - but just look how diverse the Wednesday strikers are ?
Being from Barnsley actually opens Hecky up to more abuse than would normally be the case. I listened to Barnsley lad Nicky Eaden get absolute dog's abuse for years when he was the best right full back in the division. Hecky is doing a fantastic job and fully deserves our backing. Believe me if that weren't the case he'd be getting totally slaughtered....
Just like our young players hecky is Still learning about the championship and will make mistakes but i wouldn't want anyone else to be in charge of this team.
Watched a couple of early season 1 episodes of the Fast Show before switching to the cricket . A few characters reminded me of people on this forum . And no , work it out yourself .
Just saying it as I see it when Wilson had a nightmare in his 2nd spell to some he could do no wrong and it was the players and everyone else's fault.
No our fans wouldn't be as tolerant. Which is wrong. Its benefitted us that we have a manager who is from Barnsley; it means the fans haven't turned against him at every opportunity like past managers have been subject to. This isn't me saying Hecky should be sacked, because he shouldn't. He's a good young manager, and what this club has needed for a long time is a bit of stability, and not to pull the trigger at any sign of a slump.
We are not going to attract a better manager that Lord Hecking of Bottom within our budget, and personally I'd rather have someone who has a genuine connection and passion for the club than someone who is only with us for the pay packet. I can see him becoming our first long term gaffer in what seems like forever and become to us what the likes of Fergusson was to Utd and Dario Gradi was to Crewe(and Wenger to Arsenal maybe). That is the manager who oversees every aspect of the club over a very long period and makes it into his own vision... Just hope he has the success of Ferguson/Wenger, rather than Gradi...
When I say every aspect, I suppose i meant on the football side. If I was a (long term)manager of a club, I would want to make sure everyone from the youngest of the youth teams to the senior teamm to the tea ladies(and everyone in between) were all doing things the way I wanted, as that would give me the best chance of long term success. If a manager knows he will only be there for a season or two, the chances are he wouldn't pay attention to the youth teams(or plan for the longer term) as he knows he wont benefit from them...
The model we use is relatively cheap but risky. For every 5 lower league players we sign maybe 2-3 will become a championship standard. Unfortunately I think this crop of lower league players are taking a while to adjust and unfortunately for us they are mostly midfielders. Beyond Williams (who has all the attributes to be an excellent player) we have nobody who is Championship ready. Our two best players are both premiership loanees and by coincidence both didn’t play Tuesday (I know Barnes came on against Cardiff, but it was too late) and both had poor games Saturday, we lost both games. It looks like we have a good one in Lindsay but he needs an experienced player at the side of him. We have some decent fullbacks and wingers. It’s midfield and upfront that we are weak. We haven’t looked like scoring in the last 2 home games as our system and style of play suit playing on the counter. When teams sit and counter us, as they do at Oakwell we struggle. This in my opinion is because the midfield are poor in possession. Hecky is a young up and coming manager/head coach who not one professional in the game has a bad word for and all rate him very highly. He will be hurting as much as any of us! Maybe more? He has done miracles and will continue to do so. I’ll judge him more at the end of the season when he’s had another transfer window to rectify the teams shortcomings.
