Seems to be a political stunt. Thought UEFA were fining clubs for being political or showing political banners of any kind... ?? Further control by powers-that-be over football ....whatever the agenda
I don't see it as a political move. Just a statement making LGBT people feel welcome at football matches. Fairly harmless. Pretty much like the "kick it out" campaign with racism. Changing the culture at football takes more than these kind of statements, but I guess it is a start.
They need to feel welcome? They can buy a ticket, just like anyone can, regardless of their sexuality. Load of ballax.
And how long is it since we last visited Brighton and sang "town full of gays" to them? We might all individually be welcoming, but when representing our club our fans are singing chants like that it is not so welcoming to anyone that might be gay. The same as racist chanting is offensive to people that might have a different racial background, or sexist chanting offensive to women. It won't stop overnight, but every journey starts with a small step.
I took my girlfriend to the Birmingham game. I'm sure at some point I held her hand, almost certainly gave her a hug. Can you imagine the reaction in certain areas of some football grounds if my partner had been male?
Of course it's political ... not saying I disagree with it .. just the constant orwellian rightwing liberal bs that has been used by fifa and certain govts since the 80s in trying to control how folk think..especially working class and football The kick out racism is totally different.. and it's done not much fwics FIFA fined Celtic for flying Irish flags and Palestine flags ... yet this Orwellian propaganda telling you what to do or how to behave be it wear a poppy or rainbow flags etc and it's all good.....
The very fact that people on this thread are criticising this goodwill gesture, is precisely why it needs to happen.
I don't see how it's telling anyone how to think. It is the EFL showing support to LGBT people. If you want to be a homophobe I'm sure you'll be in good company with a lot of neanderthals that attend football grounds.
