The reason I am "animated" as you put it is that IMO the media are targetting the wrong people. I may have given the impression of condoning immoral behaviour which I do not. What I am doing is taking issue with the media 'rabble rousing' and selecting individuals and accusing them of illegal activity, when they should be focussing on Governments for lax laws. Also I find the hypocritical not to mention inaccurate nature of some comments/accusations annoying. Why hypocrisy? Because most people, ifthey are honest with themselves, seek to minimise their tax liabilities, its just that some have the money to be able to employ experts and skirt around the aforementioned lax tax rules without quite crossing over the line into the areas of illegality inspite of what Panorama, the Guardian and others. Some of the BBC/ Panorama insinuations particularly when it comes to the IoM situation were not strictly accurate.(for example, that the Lewis Hamilton situation where the IoM Government had to clarify that they had approved and were aware of the import export process after the BBC in their reporting tried to suggest otherwise) The IoM scheme are no worse, and probably not as bad as when Junckers was PM of Luxembourg and set it up as a tax haven. Again it is not right but like I said targetting and demonising individuals is wrong so long as they abide by the law. It is the Laws and those that pass them that should be under the microscope and then changed.
No I meant the Guardian with its left wing agenda which you quote on a regular basis. Hardly unbiased source material but, at least it does support your own personal viewpoint. What exactly are you implying by the last sentence above re 'right kind of migrant'? What is my own personal viewpoint- please explain? To be clear. I do not condone illegal tax dodging but as per my reply to another poster it is the targetting of individuals and public exposure of their finances who are doing nothing illegal that is wrong as it should be the Governments and legislation that is the real villain here. Incidentally, although he is trying to make a comeback, Berlusconi was ousted some time ago and is unlikely to regain any real control.
I agree that the media often target individuals unfairly. Hamilton is a case in point - it was the Isle of Man’s procedures that were at fault (re commercial vs private use). You do keep repeating the phrase “illegal tax dodging” so that legal tax dodging is acceptable. My point is that any form of tax dodging is wrong. Just because a clever scheme gets round legitimate tax demands doesn’t make it better in my eyes. You obviously think differently. I don’t employ tradesmen cash in hand for a discount, I have never tried to minimise my tax liability. I don’t think I am the only one. I am not holier than thou, just believe in fairness.
apparently the labour party has "avoided" paying tax on a 4.3m profit whilst the dirty tories paid 238.000 tax on their 1m profit.................... hypocrites, thieving scumbags or the usual rightwing bias?
I actually agree with Conan (yes, honest!) on this. Are there no political forums available where such issues can be debated with people who a) are interested in politics, and b) actually know something about the issue? I freely admit that I've not got a clue about most of the stuff you post, and I've no interest whatsoever in finding out about it. You may as well write it in Greek (or even Italian), as it would be just as comprehensible to me. On a political forum, you would be able to debate the issues with like-minded people who enjoy your type of debate. On here, you end up getting frustrated because the people who respond to your posts often don't have a clue, like me. And my comments, although in a reply to you, apply equally to others who clog up the BBS with politics. Anyway, Brad Potts is having a great season, and is getting better with every game. Great to see Izzy back and setting Adam Hammill a challenge, sad about Jacko's injury, don't sell Yiadom, we need 5 goalkeepers. Mid table here we come.
the thing with potts is you don't know what he's doing and how good he is doing it until he's not there doing it
Fair point. I was going to argue that I did not initiate this thread nor many of the other non footy political ones although I see you acknowledge this. Unfortunately when I see what IMHO are ill informed, ill thought out, biased, illogical or downright stupid posts (I stress IMO) I am like a dog with a bone and unfortunately cannot help myself. Perhaps, all political and non footy comments could have their own section where we saddos can rant and rave without , as you rightly say, "clogging up" the board,. Admin could simply delete any non footy political threads that have been started in the main footy section. Anyway, in response to your last paragraph - Hopefully mid table is the least we can hope for. With a following wind, a positive outcome to any takeover and the continued improvement in the team and individual performances a playoff place is not entirely out of the question. Hope to get to at least one home game whilst I am over visiting family at Xmas New Year.
All are different. And should be treated as such. Otherwise those red columns are just as sensationalist as an article in the Snu. Esspecially given Hmrc are ******* awful at collecting tax.
Can’t stand any of the MSM. Not quite at the level of the Fail though registered in the Bahamas to avoid tax owned by a non dom preach patriotism.
It wasnt. It was a few years ago. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the guardian and lets not forget Aunty and her pension fund investments...
No - it's the same rule for everyone. You can do exactly what the queen has done. Not sure why you would though - putting more money in a pension fund is probably a better way for most of us to avoid tax. To be clear - that lewis hamilton and the jet thing - naughty. That needs sorting.
Is the problem people like Hamilton, Bono, Carr, Queenie, etc using these schemes, or the tax system being setup in a way that allows it to happen? I'd suggest the real problem is the enormous and convoluted tax codes and lack of regulation that allows people to use tax havens, off-shore accounts and the rest.
