Most countries don't berate their own national side at every turn. Most countries don't see themselves as losers for getting knocked out in Quarter finals, most countries still give credit to the team when winning groups in which they are favourites. Most countries don't have a large amount of people who completely turn their back on their own side when times are tough. England does and it is downright disgraceful.
Of course they do. Crowds are dropping at Wembley cos the football is quite frankly boring and turgid
Barnsley are not as good as Wolves & Cardiff by a long way and we have no chance of ever winning the FA Cup or promotion this season so I'm going to stop showing my support.
The thing that frustrated the ******** off me last night, was there reluctance to cross the ball. You have Kane up top, who can scrore with both feet and his head, and I think I saw 3 crosses all night. I lost count of the number of times we had the ball wide in their the final third, and the ball either went backwards or they tried to be clever. Then when a decent ball was put in, low and behold, we score...
We've not reached a WC quarter final since 2006. We've not had a team to be proud of since 1990. The current team have some good players, but no discernible identity. If that's berating them, then I'll own up to it. I'm a disgrace.
The fact that I couldn't name most of the England team on sight, or tell you which club they play for, says everything about my attitude to football. I'm a Barnsley fan because it's in my blood and I'm past helping, but I couldn't care less about the so-called 'best league in the world' or the national team.
*2012 The amount of people who say they have stopped caring about the national side just gets on my wick. I see the San-Marinese still supporting their team greatly while people here stop getting behind the lads because we don't win the World Cup or Euros. It is our national team and should be supported through thick & thin. Criticise the tactics when appropriate yes you are fine. But the people who are readying the knives before a ball has been kicked or have stopped supporting the team in recent years, they really are a disgrace!
Last night, we played the 55th FIFA ranked team at home, and scraped a 1-0 win in the 94th minute. Slightly earlier in the evening, Poland played the 83rd ranked team in the world, and won 6-1 away from home. Ok, so Armenia are a bit below Slovenia in the rankings and Poland a little above us, but that shows the difference in mindsets between the two teams. Apart from Lewardowski (sp?), would any of the Polish players make it in the England side?
hockey team. Now there's a thought...
That's another sport. If you're an English football fan you should have an unwavering support of the England team. End of.
That's another sport. If you're an English football fan you should have an unwavering support of the England team. End of.
In your opinion. We've got free will and I'm barely bothered thanks.
You know full well that it is not the same comparison. Argentina and Holland are also unlikey to even qualify and those two nations would beat England 9 times out of 10.
You are quite right: it's not the players fault that we are consistently placed in qualifying groups with countries that barnsley would give a game. This has generally been the case over the last 20 years or so. The problem is is that we then have to play in major tournaments against much better opposition (like iceland he he) where it all begins to unravel.
Are we saying that it's unpatriotic to allow the England team bore and frustrate us out of our tiny minds..? Off with our heads, you'll be doing us a favour...
