Someone's got to say it and someone should say it. Yes, I do love the man and I'm well aware of his achievements & that he's been fecked over by higher powers at the club regarding player departures. But FFS, no one's forcing him to play such negative tactics. Against Spurs fair enough but in the league it is turgid, just like the LJ days. No reason he can't put Ugbo & TB up top. Have a go at Wolves and Villa last season we steam roll them, even without Conor in the latter case. They're nothing to fear these sides. At the moment it is our own approach that is letting us down. Sort it Hecky, Sort it out!!!
Hecky is playing a system that suits the players he has got. IMO his striker opinions are limited on the system he can play. And this is affecting the system he can adopt in midfield. But in saying all that - with the sound of it we played well at Wolves. Another step forward. We need to start to get some of these games over the line now.
There's a very good reason. Our midfield isn't good enough and we'd get slaughtered. Like at Bristol City. Even Morecambe put 3 past us when we played 4-4-2. We went with 2 up front in the second half last week. We were awful.
I feel sorry for him that he had his best players sold but he has assembled this squad. He picks the formation ect he has to take responsibility.
Said it last week and got slaughtered he needs to wake up I'm like most on here I'm desperate for him to succeed but he looks seriously wanting at the moment
The formation isn’t the biggest issue. When we’ve gone 4-4-2 we’ve looked worse. We lack balance as we have a strong right hand side but have a weaker left winger and a left back who shouldn’t be playing in that position and can’t get forward to overlap in the same way McCarthy does with hammill. We don’t have an obvious two to compete in the middle of the park - and hardly anyone else plays two up top so if we did it would often be 3v2 in the middle of the park if we did. People would moan if we played Gardner and Williams together but I can’t see any other two cutting it and allow the wide men to not have to tuck in all the time in a 4-4-2
They said that with Hourihane, that we couldn't play 2 in the middle. Last week the game had already gone. With a poor defensive spine the best thing to do is try to outscore the opposition.
People really need to get some perspective on here. We have just been beaten by a 93rd minute goal against now 2nd in the league in their backyard. We will be fine this year
Hindsight n'all that . Had we got a 1-1 everybody would be lording his tactics . Wolves have spent about 50m on players this season. Were all pissed off cos of the last minute goal hence the criticism but we have to keep the faith .
Sick of this excuse, as I've said before with better tactics we've beaten teams like Wolves in the recent past.
You can have your tactics bang on,you can be the best team but you can also lose these type of games.Thats football.
Could be slightly wrong but think in the 8 months since end of January our form is..... Played 26 Won 4 Drawn 9 Lost 13 For 25 Against 38 So nearly three quarters of a year in and after using I don't know how many players, and across two separate seasons with a pre season to sort it we are bang in relegation form, can't keep clean sheets and struggle to score goals. We all love Hecky and he's a legend, but a new owner with no prior history of him who can only go on the facts above, I don't see him being understanding when the future of his investment is on the line.
And with 4-4-2 we’ve been mullered sometimes too. We got beat with the last kick in a game that was evenly matched against a team that has been assembled at great cost. Not an excuse - an observation. We are going toe to toe and doing ok. Today could have gone either way. If it was another villa performance I could get the criticism on here but it was actually a decent performance and we were very unlucky to lose. Play like that Tuesday and I don’t think QPR will have a prayer.
We sold all our best players and replaced them with cheaper less good ones. Alex Ferguson would struggle. We have a good L1 side but a pretty awful championship one.
Since we went to one upfront we have played so much better than at Bristol. We have also looked a lot more solid since then and got better even since. I'd rather we played two up front but we've just played Tottenham and Wolves who've not had many chances against us and we marked Wolves' best player (Jota) out of the game. I would go as far to say as Hecky got his tactics spot on in both games and with a bit more luck (penalty being given today etc.) we could've got results
Yes Ive said in another thread as well that sentiment towards Hecky will only take us so far... and thats down!. Because all the good stuff under him was then, and this is now a relegation scrap already and if he continues with this awful formation, then it will be unforgiveable!. And any new owners won't be impressed with his results this year will they, we aren't and they certainly won't be.
