Handing out posters of Hecky, to kids as they entered the ground, basically thanking them for making the hundred and odd mile round trip to show their support. I'm guessing it was someone at Barnsley who came up with this simple, but nice gesture. Keeps the next generation of fans interested and feeling valued. Well done, and thank you BFC.
Nailed on some gimp will be along soon to criticise the gesture. Posters weren't big enough / printing was poor quality / not everyone got one / I got a papercut, etc etc...
In 50 years I can't remember such a gesture ever. A small but magnificent effort to thank the fans for their support. I sincerely hope nobody finds fault with it.
Well I didn't get one and I didn't go to game the club should post me one if not they are not having another penny off me. Boooo
It's interesting the oppo post says they wanted to give them to kids. I was actually offered one. It wasn't just kids. Think they just wanted to try and get rid of them.
Yeah the club definitely went to trouble of producing them because they 'just wanted to try and get rid of them'. I don't think someone anonymously printed them and dropped them off at Oakwell and they didn't know what to do with them.
If they just wanted to get rid of them why cart them all the way to Preston? They could have chucked them in a skip or burnt them. Why do you have to find fault with everything? Do you just not believe in 'nice gestures"?
Mate, are you serious?!! They didn't offer me one coz I'm a 40 odd year old bloke, or my mate for the same reason. But they gave my 11 year old son one and he thought it was great. He's in a class full of Man Utd and Chelsea fans, but he doesn't have a picture of Conte or Mourinho on his wall, he's now got our local hero, Hecky, on his wall. He set out as a Barnsley fan, age 4, because I, his Dad, forced it on him, but not any more, he's a fan because it's in his blood and his local club appreciate that. So one day he'll take his kids, and they'll take their kids. A simple poster eh? Just wanted to get rid of them, or just wanted to thank their local youth (and you) for their loyal support?
Not quite the same thing but when Ben mansford was here I think the club put posters up at an away game (Plymouth?) And bought all the travelling a drink
They did. Cardiff away, last season. Man Utd recently boasted that gate receipts are such a small proportion of their gross income that they could afford to let fans in for free. Yet we dish out a cheap bit of print on cardboard or paper, to thank the paying, valued fans, and it's priceless. Remind me why I love this club? Because we all feel like a part of it.
After writing my post I must say I had an uneasy feeling that the club must have done something similar in the past, but I couldn't remember anything. It still doesn't change things though, it was a great gesture.
