I don't necessarily blame clubs at our level and below. often its a decent way of getting a player who is out of our price range. This should the exception rather than the norm though There should be a cap on loans out as well as loans in, really boils my piss that the bigger clubs are stockpiling players and loaning them out, these players never end up in the first team squads at parent clubs. didn't chelsea have about 40 players out on loan last year? would a player like Ugbo choose Chelsea if he knew he had no chance of playing a game or would he go to a league club as a young un???
Think he's more a winger tbf whenever he's played for Scunthorpe but would nonetheless be a great signing and someone I'm sure we'll look at in the next year with his contact down to 12 months next summer I believe
Litmus test of McBurnie deal falling through will be if we hear from Hecky about the deal. Silence so far - which speaks volumes.
You could argue that we had scowen on a 3 year loan as when it came to the end of his time here, we got no fee. I don't particularly see many bad points to us loaning players we couldn't otherwise afford on heavily subsidised wages whilst the players we do actually own get a better chance of being in a more successful side as they learn
Other than the players we have missing out on valuable development time. One upside of the McBurnie fiasco is that Jacob Brown might get some experience of the first team.
It's a good point and it's interesting to think how good a player can be before we lose them. Kent last season was very inconsistent but ended well to the point that (Not sure if we tried?) we probably couldn't get him back. Armstrong was poor enough that we probably could have. Probably best scenario is something like Ashley Fletcher; a short spell of making the difference before leaving for better things unless it leads to promotion (still didn't lead to his signing in that case).
I'd say the best examples are definitely fletcher and probably Drinkwater - unknown players who we turned into saleable assets we could never afford. I wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle asked if we were interested in taking Armstrong permanently.
Hopefully if the takeover results in us having a bit more cash we can be less relent on them. Creative players are at a premium & doubt if we will ever have the money to buy player like Harvey Barnes, so I think we'll always need a couple to spice things up.
