This with bells on (and whistles). Supported the reds for close to 50 years, and this the most attuned with the club I have felt. I love who and what we are right now. I love the way we try to play, I love that we develop players, I love that our coach and chairman are local lads. I love the fact that most of our players are young and have careers in front of them. I love the fact that we don't assume that everything can be solved by throwing money at it. I get far more kick out of defying the odds than I would being top of the league because we had some cash. I'm proud of the fact that we are a shining example of what can be done with hard work and good coaching. I have zero interest in being part of the premier league circus. I didn't enjoy it the last time, and its 100 times worse than it was now. People will no doubt say that I lack ambition for the club, but they're wrong. I'm very ambitious for the club, its just my ambition doesn't run to us being at the rich kids party. I would love to see us one day being a club owned by the fans. I'd love us to be the best supported club in the country, not in numbers, but in support/atmosphere. I'd love us to be the club that sticks with a manager through thick and thin. In short I want us to be the mirror to all that is wrong with football these days. #lovebarnsleyhatefootball Its a thanks but no from me for the takeover, I honestly don't care what league they play in, seen them play in all of them and enjoyed the ride.
After today's debacle I would imagine there will be a lot of people saying bring it on, asap. Premier league or not, in the main we are not happy with the way we've been treated as fans over recent years.... up one minute, crapped on the next. However I do hope there is truth in all of this and that it's not just another wind up.
Once bought a fried fish when I was in Wigan. Guy serving me was Afro Carribean. It was one pound twenty three. I said to the guy " can you wrap it for me."? He said sure " one, two three, it's one pound twenty three."
Apart from the fact that we are in this league because we spent millions of pounds of someone else's money
There's nothing to stop any new owners buying land elsewhere in the borough and building a stadium there.
The truth is that Mr Cryne is terminally ill, and it's been widely reported that his son doesn't want the responsibility of running the club. If someone has come forward and made a concrete offer for the club, then Mr Cryne HAS to seriously consider it. Simple as that. I, like most i imagine, would prefer the club to be owned by a local person with plenty of coin, but unfortunately there aren't any that want it. 'in situations like this, you have to make a leap of faith. If the bloke is a sound businessman, then I can't see him being too happy at buying a football club and letting it go titts up, thus losing his money...
All great. Except we already rely on Patrick's money to survive at this level and excel at the one below.
It's not a fine damn post. It's massively blinkered. Do you think we've been run on brass buttons this last ten years or so? Every season pat Cryne has given cash gifts and loans to keep the club going. We have been spending millions of somebody's money. And achieved a bit of a yoyo between levels two and three. So what's the difference? Because Patrick is from Barnsley? In the grand scale of things that means the square root of **** all. Barnsley fc isn't just for the town of Barnsley. Wasn't born in Barnsley, I've never lived there. We have season ticket holders from wakey, donny, and a lot further afield. Our best ever players will be debated, but how many were from Barnsley? Until very recently we have not been properly self sufficient - and even then only because we've sold players, something which is also massively criticised. So I ask again, nobody has offered a suggestion, if this is so bad, what is the alternative? Not one suggestion has been offered.
Except we now have cash in the bank from developing players which should cover the shortfall that Patrick has been making up. I suspect that's the real reason we haven't seen the majority of it ploughed back into buying players.
Sorry but I could not disagree more with Skryptic and Cambridge Reds posts ( sorry!). I too have been going to Oakwell for fifty years and have seen them play at all levels and obviously with a varying degrees of success and failure. Throughout that time we've also had a variety of owners but apart from some days in the late sixties and early seventies we've always tried to compete at the highest level we could. Without the hope of improvement I don't think I'd go to watch the Reds. Patrick Cryne has to sell the club to someone and has been trying to for years now. There's no chance of fans taking over and us competing to stay at a high level. Will this new guy and his investment group be a disaster? Who knows? It doesn't seem like they are going to throw money at the club. Maybe a more neutral investor who is looking for a fit into their portfolio is much better than a billionaire looking for glory. As long some patience is forthcoming and the club remains stable then maybe it's the best outcome we can hope for.
I've been going for nearly 50 years and can never remember our team being so blatantly stripped of talent in so short a time as has happened recently. There's nowhere to go if you don't have the brass. This game now is all about money. Nowt else. So.....if you can't beat 'em.....join 'em.
I think some need to reassess what this offer actually means. They aren't coming in promising huge investment and instant success. They aren't coming in wanting huge changes and upheaval. Instead of comparing us to clubs who have had rogue investors here, why not look at nice, who have had the same investors. They have not had the club torn from under them, and have experienced success. The guy might be naturally Chinese but he's essentially American. As is his business partner. Man Utd, Liverpool, arsenal, Tottenham - all criticise their owners at times, but look at them. Liverpool haven't won the league for nearly thirty years but they can still turn down £120million for their best player
