As far as I'm aware YCCC have never finished bottom of the Championship. Boycott (and I have no love for him) captained a team that played with one arm behind it's back because they would only field Yorkshire born players while the rest of the counties had the pick of the world's best. He may not have been an attacking batsman but he never sold his wicket cheaply. If you're going to throw stones, check the backstory first.
Get over yourself Phil. The likes of Boycott and Gower would have been even better on today's pitches. You're not comparing like for like.
Apologies I've read it wrong whilst skim reading. ''Boycott's eight seasons of captaincy were among Yorkshire's least successful. The club failed to win any competitions and ranked low in the Championship table, in contrast to their one-time dominance of English cricket.''
Take a look at the bowling line ups that Boycott in particular faced during his test years. It might make you appreciate just how good a player he was and he's well placed to offer a professional opinion. Atherton was the closest to him in my opinion, someone brave to fend off a barrage of seam bowling and hold an innings together. Like he did more than once against Allan Donald. We have a potentially excellent team, lots of talent and very attack minded, perhaps a "consequence" of the Flintoff, Petersen era. But attacking cricket isn't foolproof at test level, they've got to learn to defend their wicket. If critical advice from past batsmen, damn fine ones, riles them then you'd have to question their ability to cope. I hope it's inconsistency, but we've been woeful in this test. You are far to predictable now Phil. How anybody has the gumption and bare arsed cheek to suggest someone who criticised that absolute shower today was in the wrong should take a long hard look. They were gutless, spineless and absolutely appalling. I'd give Jennings another go, ballance was a bit unfortunate with that delivery, but wood and Dawson are plainly not good enough. Of the rest, bairstow, moeen, stokes and root himself need their heads knocking together for not having the intelligence or balls to try and guts it out. Cook might be only 60-70% of what he was but that still makes him our best opener comfortably unfortunately. Being outplayed in a game is fine. Being gutless and folding without any semblance of effort is not. They were a disgrace today and I hope Bayliss has bollocked them. That's Trevor Bayliss, the head coach. Who said they were shocking in this game. Is he wrong too? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Apology accepted. They were really tough times for YCCC. We just couldn't compete. We could have been captained by anyone with the same result.
Truthfully I think Bayliss is causing England some problems. He doesn't spend enough time in the UK. He seems to be going against Root on a number of things. Position Root Bat's been number one. He wants Root to bat 3 and Root isn't interested. Comments after the Lords matcha bout Ali. Whats he talking about. Ali's the number two spin bowler in this squad? Ali said he doesn't want the pressure that's all not that he's number two. What I will do is not be too harsh on one game. They won massively at Lords only last week. Flintoff's got it right for me.
Just the occasional ashes series but yeah apart from that they have done nowt in their career really.
Lead England to an Ashes series comparable to Bothams ashes when cricket was on free to air tv. I really don't get you. England crumbled today and should take the criticism as well as the plaudits when then do well.
Although Vaughan was ranked the best batsman in the world at one point, so if he's not entitled to an opinion on batting, who is? Do you have to have been the world's best captain to have an opinion? Think we'd be struggling for commentators...
Who cares what TV channel it was on. Cook lead England to wins in India and SA. Strauss Won in Australia. They are the big wins. Winning aways the challenge for any team.
Spot on. Though I think Wood has talent; not shown it this series so far though. Maybe not a Test bowler.
Vaughan never captained England in Australia. Lost his only series in India (D2,L1). Won the series on tour of South Africa 04/05 (2-1?) but drew and lost two home series against them.
