The club never even approached him or his agent to discuss a contract offer: Gauthier Ganaye: I have heard the comments about the fact the club didnt offer Robbo a new contract. In fact, the club did offer Robbo and his representatives to renew his contract a few months ago and everybody has to understand that our club could not offer him the 5 year deal that BCFC has offered him. As I said; Robbo has grown quicker than us and everybody at the club is happy for him and wish him the best." Roberts' mum's response: No they said they would speak after Jan window to Robbo & nothing more was said no approach either via agent/ Robbo Seems rather odd that several players are all claiming they weren't offered contracts while bfc are claiming they were.
My opinion which has no facts whatsoever. BFC: Fancy a new contract Robbo, how much you thinking? Robbo: about £20k a week BFC: we'll not bother Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Funny how watkins rejected a contract as did josh. davies and angus signed extensions yidom has turned a new one down and wants a move back down south but robo never offered one hmmm okay
I would be absolutely astonished if we hadn't offered him a new contract, or any of the others As posted above, most likely thing is we discuss, player (or agent) says they want something more than we can offer, so we say we can't offer that I like the way Gauthier put it: he outgrew the club. Clearly that was the case for many players. We need to guard against that in the future if at all possible by offering new deals to players doing well after 1 year of their deal imo
Up to us who we believe. A player with nothing to gain by lying or a club whose Chairman was in ***** for ********** the ***** ******.
They would be no club if it wasn't for Patrick. You should have abit of respect for him instead of bad mouthing him behind a fake name on a fans forum. He.brought the transfer policy in to sign thesee players put his own cash in to sign Mawson ryan williams funded the accademy ect. Why didn't you subsidise the wages so these players stayed.
Why would a supporter need to subsidise player wages when we've brought in £20m in transfer fees? So you think I should be banned for not kissing the owner's backside? I think you should be banned for being so in his thrall that you are incapable of having your own opinion.
GG has made his first error. He is inexperienced, he is dealing with a situation that he has not come across before. He should not have entered into debate on a public forum (twitter), especially when he has no chance of winning the argument. The better plan would have been to stay silent and take the knock. Having said all that, I do not believe that he is spinning (lying). Whether a negotiation has begun is open to debate. If the club asks a player's agent if he would be open to extending his contract, and the player's agent says that the player wants to let his contract run down and see what options he has, does that constitute an offer or is it just an enquiry. Both parties could be deemed as being correct in their assertion. It just depends on how you see that conversation and what picture you are trying to paint to the listening public. It is well known that a player who has done well can expect to negotiate a deal with another club that Barnsley FC cannot match. The player knows it, the club knows it. About the only people who do not appear to know it, or who are not prepared to accept that situation, are a certain group of posters on here. It is called realism, and that group of posters seem incapable of being realistic. The realistic view is that a player will not accept a contract offer that is below his market price and it is irrelevant who said what or when in that situation. It is just another stick that a certain section on here can use to beat the club.
Conan, I understand yours and others concerns about players being sold. I don't particularly agree but am prepared to debate and agree to differ but this post was out of order.
I believe the statements coming from both parties could be true and there is maybe some spin in both. CEO says the club did offer to renew contract. Mother says no contract offered. CEO doesn't state new contract was actually offered Mother doesn't mention offer to renew was made just no actual new contract was offered. As I say both original statements could be true.
Hecky etc interact with players every day. They know them personally and inside out. You can't tell me that the possibility of him staying wasn't discussed informally. To suggest it wasn't is ludicrous. But if, from the comments Roberts made on a casual basis left Hecky and the club in no doubt that, understandably, he wanted to secure his future on big wages elsewhere that we have no chance of matching then it may well have been deemed pointless to formally offer him one at the far lower figure we could afford. In fact it could almost be seen as insulting to put a contract in front of him for, say, 12k a week when everyone knows he can get 20k plus elsewhere.
I asked his mum directly. She said that they were promised an offer after the January window. This never happened. It is possibly a result of Linton Brown leaving and in those terms things happen. Marc would have preferred to stay. You may wish to believe someone who has been here 5 minutes and wants to ( rightly) protect his employer. I think we have done good business on this individual transfer. Marc is a good player but he's not irreplaceable he's not Conor Hourihane. It seems sensible to sell if we then reinvest all the transfer fee received in making the team better. I'm not sure that anyone. We would have been better served to just say that. People will criticise the club if they believe that they are not being straightforward over an emotive issue like this. The logical extension of your position is never try to retain any good player because if you offer them a contract they might say no. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Why? It comes down to who the individual wants to believe and what information you use to come to that conclusion.
It looks more to me like a very initial approach was made at the back end of last year and that the club told Roberts that they would discuss it after they got January's **** up out of the way but then the guy in charge of doing this left and nobody bothered to chase it up.
Would you agree that the club should offer a contract anyway even if they believe it will be turned down? In my opinion they should offer one with clauses that benefit the players and just be honest and say look mark/Conor/Josh this is the best contract we can offer you. We understand if you look elsewhere but as a statement of intent we feel it is only right that we show you we want to keep you by offering you the best terms we possibly can. No risk at all because if the player was going to leave he still is, if he wants to stay he can stay and most importantly of all it means that you don't look like complete amateurs when all your departing players are publicly claiming you never even attempted to retain them.
