"The Premier League will not block Reading's entry into the Premiership if they beat Huddersfield Town. The EFL granted approval for their new Chinese owners Dal Yongge and Dal Xlu Li to become majority shareholders at Reading who have qualified for the Championship play off final on 29th May. The brother and sisters consortium failed in a bid to take Hull City over last year because they were unable to satisfy concerns from the Premier League over the terms of the proposed deal. Extra conditions have been applied to the Reading takeover and they will not be denied promotion if they are promoted. As of June 2016 the Royals were in debt to the tune of £73 million after losing a total of £15 million in the 2015-16 season.! A Premier League spokesperson has said that following an exhaustive review of the transaction the EFL have insisted upon and the new owners and the club have agreed to a number of requirements including enhanced financial monitoring." Please discuss.?
I would happily never get promoted to the premiership if it meant gambling with our long term future. How we are run makes it all the more satisfying that we are punching with the big boys. Like Hecky says, keep doing what we do well, and learn from our mistakes and we'll keep moving forward. my humble opinion is that nothing good lasts forever. The premiership will not always be the so called best league in the world. Countries will develop their own brands and draw in their own fans. Money will reduce to the premiership and plenty of owners will cash out. Clubs will go bust. Some may have some fleeting "success" until they do. As long as we are well run, continue working so closely with the community, I'll be very happy supporting this club.
£73 million in debt!! Makes your eyes water and your blood boil that they can be allowed to get away with carrying that much debt. I'm no fan of Huddersfield as a club with their obnoxious drummers and big time charlie fans (with no justification) but I really hope they scupper Reading who risk going into freefall without the PL handouts.
Totally agree. If they miss out on the £200 million for qualifying and the payments they could attract in future seasons they will be in big trouble. Big gamble for their new owners.
Germany, Spain, Italy and France have valid arguments about being better quality leagues - at least at the very top. China has more money.
Agree, would like Huddersfield to do it. Pretty well run club. Hoyle has invested, but taken his time with the project. Reading have gone down hill since Madejski sold up. Think he's still on the board, but only at an executive level. If they don't go up this time they will be in the same predicament as Blackburn.
