........for Nowt But Patrick Cryne thinks that they have served the club well i.e. they don't owe the club a penny. All I can say to that is - if that's the case then Barnsley Football Club MUST be awash with money.
I think kidnapping people is frowned on in certain circles. I know it's PC gone mad but what can you do... Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
January coming home to roost, not only throwing away our chances of progression but also showing the players that were left that we don't have the ambition to match theirs.
They have served the club well, and they personally don't owe the club a penny. Partick is right. Let's see where they both go before being judgemental about how much we've offered them to renew their contracts. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
No its not 12 million, Patrick is right. Scowen cost us about £250, 000 & Marley was on a free & having both playing a major part in our rise, these players have helped us make money & should leave with a big thanks from the club.
You can thank Bosman for that outcome. Players rule. Pay more than what anyone else is willing to offer, or they look elsewhere. It's just that simple.
I'm confused....so we should have sold them in January as well as the others we sold? Or not sold the players we did had had them go for free too? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Personally i have no idea why we didn't accept the offer for Watkins in Jan. I said at the time it made no sense. The club made the decision not to gamble on a unlikely chance at promotion and cash in. But then we kept Watkins, once we had lost out on Morsy and sold the rest we may as well cashed in on Watkins too.
12 million??? how do you get to that figure?? are you saying that a 1 in 6 goalscorer at best, is worth £6m?? that Scowen for £6m is worth more that Hourihane?
I think that we would have had we received one from the right club and for the right money. Marley made it clear that he wanted to go to the Premier league. A friend of a colleague of mine spoke to him around that time and he said that only Ipswich had made an offer for him. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
A lot of fuss about Watkins, what hes worth etc. Good player for us, along with the team mates he knows and has played with for some time, and has a great engine on him and will run all day. Premier league standard? If he thinks he can succeed at that level, good luck to him. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
the point being offer at a PROPER TIME i.e. When they have more than 1 year left on their current contract otherwise they hold all the cards. If you're happy to see us develop players year on year without benefitting like we should that's your business. I personally am interested in the sustained growth of the club and that simply won't happen under the business model of buying players to develop and giving them away when we are finished developing them.
Thats ok saying that but what if they were all given 3 year contracts and they ended up not beung good enough at this level. Easy to chuck all these contracts aroynd when its not your money.
Its a tricky one though better contract negotiations would at least see us get some recompense for our development of players.
