    It's probably just a misconception on my part from watching Hollywood films about Viking marauders. I know that, in reality, the term covers seafarers from all of the Scandinavia countries but I just tended to think of the "norsemen" being from Norway, in a schoolboyish/ignorant kind of way :)

    Any way I really hope Uhtred of Bebbanburg gets his rightful land back in the final episode tomorrow but it's not going to be easy storming that Bamburgh Castle!

    I used to work at a bookies in town. I was once having a meeting with a black lady from our training department. 1st time she'd ever been to Barnsley. She walked literally 50ft from her car to the bookies and got called the n word on the way. She'd been in the town literally 3 minutes.

    You talk some right rubbish. My ex-Barnsley college physics lecturer teaches and lives in Africa and has for the last 10 years. He is extremely happy and is always posting pictures and stories to facebook about his time there so far. He certainly isn't being driven out and told he doesn't belong.

    Actually it is accurate as there was a fort there and that's what's on the show.

    Ruler of Northumbria at the time was Ecgberht II.

    Every "town" shown in the programme is little more than a fort but that one at Bebbanburg looks a tough nut to crack. Looking forward to seeing what tactics Uhtred employs to defeat his nasty uncle. Unless this is the last ever episode it will be left hanging (well, someone will!). King Alfred is not going to want his best swordsman to languish way oop north is he?

    I don't normally watch this kind of thing by the way, but I got hooked on it from episode one. It's been really well done I think.

    I've read all the books so I can tell you what happens, however, the TV series is taking a loose interpretation with the written version, so it may or may not happen in that manner. And it's a long way to go with many more battles, sex, bedding and double crosses before then.
