Because Scotland represents 1/13th (roughly) of the population of the UK. There should be somebody from Yorkshire on every episode too.
I only mentioned Corbyn because you said that Khan didn't represent the Labour heartlands, so who would you have preferred? The dreadful Angela Eagle? This may not be accurate but you're sounding a little bitter about it. Personally I think Tarzan has put self interest before democracy (like others in the Lords) and was rightly given the boot.
The BBC was very much pro-Union that's true, but they were also very much pro-EU, Scots Nats were very much against the BBC on the former but on their side for the latter. The arguments against Independence were exactly the same as the ones against leaving the EU, Scots Nats disagreed with the former but agreed with the latter. Scots Nats are against rule by London but in favour of rule by Brussels. They're completely confused up there.
Leavers on Facebook/Twitter are all complaining about all the doom-mongering Remainers on the show, Heseltine has always put the EU first and Britain second, he's a weasel and a backstabber (and closed the last pits round here I recall).
Head in hands. Seriously if you think the BBC is pro Tory then I suggest you either have an agenda you're biased.
I've said it before (probably on here), but the government need Brexit to be an immediate success or they will face a serious backlash with a GE just 14 months after we leave. They might get away in 2020 with blaming the EU for the problems they've caused, but I can't see any recovery being sufficient to still get away with that excuse in 2025.
The BBC are very pro Conservative . As an institution that is supposedly impartial they fail at every level. One of Cameron's first jobs was to install ex Tory grandees in positions of power throughout the BBC. Ex Thatcher hard core , Chris Patten was one such person. Why did he do that, if not for the BBC to influence from a pro Tory view.? They are very careful in how and what they report and report very little that is unfavourable to the present government, never holding them to account of challenging them Look at Andrew Marr for examp!e ! Marches, rallies, protests, yes all unreported or limited reporting with the BBC's political spin. Laura Kuenssberg is absolutely horrific, as a supposedly unbiased and impartial reporter, she has already been taken to task for her anti Corbyn spin, this was accepted by the BBC and yet she is still carrying on in the same vein. "A failure of impartiality" BBC Trust Draft Report concluded. Her report had focused on Corbyn's views on "Shoot to kill" after terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015. I have lost all respect for the BBC, even 'Question Time ' is rigged , if you do research on this you will see for yourself. Rigged with bias, one guess to suggest towards which party! To dismiss the BBC as not being pro conservative with all the evidence available is simply laughable. It has become , sadly, simply not fit for purpose.
They were in Sunderland, 61% voted Leave, mass booing from QT audience whenever Brexit was mentioned. QT already been caught out several times having Labour Activists in the audience. As for BBC being right-wing and pro-Tory that's hilarious, the BBC loves only 3 things; the EU, mass immigration and environmentalism, OK maybe 4 things, they also kiss the royal family's arse, that is the only thing that could be considered "right-wing" although there are plenty of right-wingers who aren't royalists.
Giving Keir Starmer more than one line would have been a start he is Labour's Brexit spokesman. I'd have been happy with anybody off the Labour front bench basically, Burgen, McDonnell, Tom Watson.
There is plenty of evidence online but it is the opposite of what you're suggesting. Personally I think the BBC is pretty neutral however I listen to a lot of talk radio stations and when this subject is brought up the overwhelming accusation is that the BBC is left wing biased. Just doing a simple Google search using the words BBC and bias but excluding the words left and right returns significantly more links relating to left wing or pro Europe bias than right wing / pro Brexit bias. A s I said I think the BBC is neutral in general. I do think the QT audience is often quite left wing but I don't buy into any conspiracy theories about this, it is just an observation. There is no hint, in my opinion of any Tory bias from the BBC. One final point: I also seem to recall that the BBC re-wrote it's own mission statement in light of left wing bias accusations.
Sunderland Central is a Labour stronghold. In 2015 the Labour candidate got more than twice as many votes as the next nearest candidate. Sunderland Central replaced the previous Sunderland North (has only ever had a Labour MP) and Sunderland South (always returned Labour except for 3 general elections in the 1950s when it was a Tory marginal). But they must have bussed Labour activists in last night. Right...
