What's the general consensus for January then? Personally I'd have them go opposite directions in the loan market. George is a real talent and could be a valuable asset for us this season. Elliot has never had any sort of match fitness or sharpness to prove what a good player he is.
He was a solid player earlier in the season. Didnt pull up.any trees but hes had stiff competition in this squad. Hes been unlucky but i hope he can find a club that suits him. Im sure he'll do well in time.
You can look at it that way, or you could say he hasn't had anything near enough opportunities to build match fitness and sharpness. No one's fault, just down to us having a settled midfield and attack. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Would give Moncur the next half a season to show if he has a future here. If not he will be sold or loaned out next season. Elliot Lee I have no idea. Either L2/L1 loan to show what he can do, or prove in U23s. Not looking great for him when Brown has leapfrogged him though.
I never really understood the signing of Moncur as I don't think he fits into Heckys system, unless of course he did plan on changing it? Williams is as good, if not potentially better. As for Lee....... league 1 looked his level and he hasn't stepped up like the majority of the squad. I don't think either player have a future at oakwell. The spreadsheet can't always get it right!
I think that alot of people are frustrated about Moncur because of his lack of games/the comments about his attitude plus the fact he was touted as such a talent and that we made out he was the big capture of the summer
I'm sure Moncur can still be class and with the future potential departure of Hourihane he will hopefully get his chance to prove this as long as his attitude improves. As for Lee, Hecky doesn't seem to want to play him and he can't get in the squad never mind the team. Clearly lacks match fitness so I would expect him to be loaned out or sold if the right offer comes in January
Always thought Lee was here to keep his mate company, never thought he was good enough to play for us. Moncur needs to knuckle down to earn a place or else he'll be gone in summer
things can turn. look at conor 'can't play in a 4-4-2' hourihane. it will take some doing though i think, for moncur. less about ability, more about attitude. for me there's just no room at our club for egos. i wouldn't be surprised if he moved on. i just think we dropped a b0llock signing him.
He is seriously unfit & unprepared for playing week in week out, has been all season. Of course he's here for his football prowess. Although he's not had the opportunity to show it at Oakwell there is no doubt he is a talented lad. I know it was only a friendly, but look at the Peterborough highlights if you think he's got no class at all.
I was very impressed with the capture of Moncur in the summer. He was the standout player in an otherwise poor Colchester team last season. He scored bags of goals and seemed an astute signing. It appears though that his favoured position is either behind the striker (similar to the role Scowen is often deployed in when we're protecting a lead) or in a midfield 3. Neither are systems we often set up to play in. As for Elliott Lee, I'm unsure as to what his preferred position is. If he is indeed a striker, I'm a little lost as to why he's not been given a go. We've rotated through several permutations this season, mostly with Winnall as a focal point but he doesn't seem to get near the side. If he's a wide player then he's got stiff competition out there as well because even the more established players like Williams and Janko are struggling for game time. The other position is the one which I think Moncur likes to play in, in which case the signing of Lee was a strange one. I'm not going to write either player off without seeing them have a run of games in the side, especially as this time last season people were writing off the likes of George Williams, who went on to be one of our most consistent performers in the 2nd half of the season. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
The problem with lack of fitness is it's a bit of a vicious circle: if a player's not match fit he doesn't get in the side, and getting in the side is the only way to get match fit. Look at Morsy: looked a little shaky when he made his debut for us, but now he's class because he says playing every week. Same could be for Lee, but I think that he's never going to get enough game time with the players we've got, so will likely move on in January or summer
Does anyone think that George was brought in as a replacement for Conor, if Conor were to move on? He has shown the quality last season and in flashes at Posh. If Conor does not leave until the summer, George would still be seeking first team football somewhere and he might not be guaranteed a slot in 2017-18 if we secure Conor on a new contract. I think Conor would only leave for the Premiership. Otherwise he might as well stay with us to develop further still. No point going to Villa and back-sliding. I would think that Bournemouth, or Southampton would be good Prem sides, but neither seem to have shown interest. I reckon that, if no one with Premiership status, or realistic aspirations, comes in, he will sign another contract with us with the proviso that we allow him to talk to Premiership teams.
With Moncur, I can see him coming back in early Jan and be given a few weeks to prove he's willing to work in training and fight for a place. Otherwise it'll be a deadline move out on loan again. I think we'll still see him as a long term project worth holding on to given Hourihane, Scowen and Morsy aren't guaranteed to be with us beyond next summer.
Does Moncur's loan finish on 1 January? If so I'd be tempted to play them both against Blackpool. Given Hourihane and Winnall a rest and a chance to show what they can do in a lower risk game against inferior opposition.
