I believe the Chronicle said it had been bought out by another pub company (the Slug and Lettuce mob).

Barnsleys nightlife is on it's rear end. I very rarely venture into town much these days, much preferring to go out in Leeds but I went out this past weekend for my dads birthday. To say it was dead would be putting in lightly. I know other factors are at play Christmas etc... But Wellington Street was desolate.

No great loss. Maybe S&L will train the staff to an adequate level.

Seeing Jenny Agutter in the niff did it for me.

Maybe its because I haven't lived in Barnsley for years but my first thought when I saw the title of the OP wasn't the bar but that film as well. Absolute classic - it would be an excellent film even without the added bonus of Jenny Agutter lacking clothing, thats just an extra bonus.

I was in Tarn last Friday and it was very busy we had a great afternoon/evening. Apparrently Wellington street dunt come to life while the early hours anyway. I'm usually long gone by then so wouldn't really know.

A few weeks ago I went with my brother to watch, the very excellent ex squeeze frontman Glen Tillbrook at the civic in town. I haven't been out for years in Barnsley but at 10.30 pm ish we attempted to get some food, you know sit down couple of beers and err.....food.
Just about everything was shut, so we ended up getting fish and chips on wellington street (which was absolutely awful!!) I was told as the place was tarn doesn't start warming up until 12pm but honestly no one about..............how times change eh?

Prefer Leeds on the train for an afternoon session. Much more civilized. Not much change out £10 for 2 pints mind.

Walkabout in donny shut about eighteen months to two years ago. Been empty since, just reopening as another of mr Ashley's sports direct empire.

Shame, when it was at its best it was rammed. Died a death over the last few years up to this time two years ago when they pulled the plug, think it shut march last year.
