ISIS are seizing weapons, they have wealthy sympathisers and they are themselves a very rich terrorist group. The difference between them and the IRA is ideology, they want to destroy our way of life and spread the caliphate across the entire world. There is no start point for negotiations.
Impossible to negotiate with this. They started off wanting to eradicate sykes-picot. Now they literally want to destroy anyone who isn't them. There's no negotiation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can't disagree . There are no similarities between Isis and the IRA . Traditionally the IRA are united by a fairly narrow cause of removing British rule from Ireland , however it has gone through several campaigns since the 1916 rising , each petering out due to little or no support from the Irish Republic , particularly after the rise of the Provisional IRA , as opposed to the Official IRA (who were seen as the old guard , not technically nor politically as advanced as the Provisionals ).and the numbers involved have always been relatively small , even at the height of the troubles , active IRA members were only considered as being a few hundred . But despite all the brutalty , it , in hindsight seems a strange affair , a friend of mine was in Ireland in the 70's and he said Tuesdays were always quiet and you knew where all the local Provo's were because that was signing on day . The campaign was ended largely because British Intelligence infiltrated the Provisionals at a level that gave the Army some notable successes that left the Provo leadership unable to trust anyone , that , allied to a willingness to talk , and astutely involving foreign mediators gave them a way out that not only saved face , but gave senior figures a future political career . It has to be remembered it took 30 years for that to happen . ISIS though is almost a Facebook insurrection of huge numbers , caused by a massive vacuum of leadership in the Islamic world ( dictatorship is probably a better term ) , caused by Blair/Bush in Iraq , and dreadfully reinforced by Cameron and Sarkozy in Libya , the utter chaos caused in Syria is testament to a failed , unconsidered policy by western nations , and Cameron and Blair in particular cannot be exempted from that . ISIS itself will be defeated on the battlefield in Syria , by taking the ground it has opened itself up to modern pitched warfare , the vast bulk of it's most committed will be killed there , dissuading the less committed , as the Kurdish Peshmerga have already proved . The remains will continue to attack soft civilian targets as they are doing now , but they will be sorted in time .
No because they were innocent people, she let in a million young male economic migrants (not refugees), and a fair number of them have turned out to be rapists, murderers and terrorists as well, which unless she's a total idiot, she must have known, she should be on trial for treason.
I was just venting. She should have a fair trial. And then when she's found guilty, the firing squad. Got out of EU just in time, before she gives all those people citizenship and they can move anywhere in the EU, and no doubt we would have been number 1 destination, like how most of the Somali population of The Netherlands all upped sticks and moved here.
Hmmm!! "She should have a fair trial. And then when she's found guilty, the firing squad. Got out of EU just in time, before she gives all those people citizenship and they can move anywhere in the EU, and no doubt we would have been number 1 destination, like how most of the Somali population of The Netherlands all upped sticks and moved here." Exactly who is trolling who here?? Not defending Gloria here as some of his posts are somewhat extreme. However, taking these posts and drawing the conclusion that he is as dangerous as ISIS and has a similar agenda is bizarre! It is an inescapable fact that the open border policies has brought about the security problems that we have now. The original instability caused by US/ European foreign policy in the MIddle East over several decades is the root cause but the catalyst for the atrocities is inaction by the EU and individual Governmenst to provide sufficient resources to cope with the huge influx of migrants and refugees. This obviously has made it easy for terrorists to enter the EU and commit the sort of atrocities we are seeing. It is an inescapable fact though, that there is the added problem of 'home grown' terrorists which additional resources for processing migrants would not solve. Nevertheless, more focus could have been placed on tracking suspected local insurgents if the migrants had been properly screened and processed rather than allowing open borders and millions of people to enter Germany and other EU states relatively unchecked. It is fair to say the stable door has been well and truly left open and what the answer is I have no idea. Like an earlier poster stated, this is nothing like the terrorist threats we have had in the past like the Provisional IRA, ETA who have political single aims and could and have been capable of negotiating. ISIS is a twisted ideology and nothing to do with true Islamic religion whose sole aim is not negotiable and that is a World wide Caliphate living under their total control.
To be fair , Angela Merkel is a decent woman . As German leader she has a great responsibility to always prove Germany itself is a caring democracy , letting in the numbers she did was a humanitarian act that she probably assumed would be welcomed by the rest of Europe in that spirit , and with it easing the pressures on the southern countries bearing the brunt of the migration . It probably was flawed thinking , she has put her own personal career at serious risk by this and may well pay an electoral price for it . It looks ill judged and now also extremely counter productive , but I'm sure was done for the right reasons.......and not treason in any way shape or form .
Sincere Condolences to the Victims Condolences to the families and friends of the 12 victims, and a heartfelt "Gute Besserung" to those injured and in hospital. Best wishes also to those unhurt but who've been traumatised by the attack, including 2 of my German friends who were in the area. God knows what they are thinking.
Ah Sykes- Picot, the infamous line in the sand agreement. The situation has moved on somewhat from the early part of the 20th Century when just 2 countries in France and U.K were disputing empire boundaries and whipping up local fervour to support each other's cause. I think France and U.K. eradicated Sykes-Picot long before anyone else had the chance.
