Yes and have the french elect that nice Marine Le Pen, the Austrians elect Norbert Hofer , The Germans Ronald Gläser and how much safer and happier the world will be
Does anyone know where I can buy one of those Nuclear fallout shelter kits... ...like they used to sell in the cold war era in the USA? Better still, if the company still exists where can I buy shares in it? Forget about Brexit this is 10 times worse mainly because it could set a precedent for the French German Elections and we end up with extreme right victories as a protest against the status quo. Not to mention we have someone completely unsuited to be the most powerful man in the Western World
Re: Does anyone know where I can buy one of those Nuclear fallout shelter kits... Think this result says more about the voters than the actual politicians.
How history will view his term(s) as President only time will tell but for what I have picked up from watching the election is that there are significant numbers of people across America who feel let down and left behind by what they refer to as 'the establishment' - career politicians who have done nothing to help them despite being in power for years. One thing that Trump has in his favour is that he can distance himself from this, he is completely new to politics and this has resonated with a lot of people. As I said in another post I wouldn't have voted for him personally but I can understand why so many Americans have. I put a lot of the blame for this on the Democratic party. How on earth the considered Clinton to be the best person to represent them only they will know. In all honesty I don't think they could have chosen a worse candidate.
Re: Does anyone know where I can buy one of those Nuclear fallout shelter kits... I thought that originally but the votes was such a landslide even a land mass the size of the USA cannot be inhabited by so many stuoid people. SO, quite a few intellgent people must also have voted for him. Perhaps they know something we don't. Amazing how I managed to type all that given the number of straws I am clutching in each hand right now.
Re: Trust the Yanks... After this result, whose to say Ant or Dec could put up to be our next Prime Minister.
Totally. I actually think Sanders would've stood a far better chance than Clinton. There is a lot of (admittedly anecdotal) evidence of low income Sanders supporters switching to Trump once Clinton got the Democratic nomination. This is an entirely reasonable assumption to make - you only have to look at the huge Brexit vote in northern Labour strongholds, and indeed the relative success of UKIP and earlier the BNP in such places, for an illustration as to how that socio-economic group changes their allegiance when they're looking to cast a protest vote.
That's how I see it. It was a chance for America to vote between two bad candidates and they went for the worse of the two. A woman with decades of political experience losing to a TV personality. Trump came out with a lot of ridiculous comments but him winning should not be seen as much of a shock. Hilary was used as a dormat by her husband who cheated on her with a younger lady, lied about it and humiliated her on a worldwide scale and she stood by him. Her health has come into play this year and so have her emails. Americans like alot of Brits want a change from the same old type of politician. They have had two from the Bush family and didn't want two from the Clinton family as well. They also as we do in the UK love an underdog so such an experienced candidate with most of the media wanting her to win and lots of A list celebrities backing her may have made people rebel against her. Instead of churning out the likes of Beyonce and Katy Perry in the hope that their fans vote for her due to the backing their idol has given her, she should have concentrated more on policies. A big deal was made of her having a chance of being the first female president when that's not a selling point unless people buy into what you're saying. America voted in Obama who got a large number of black votes but barely a month goes by without hearing of a black person getting shot usually be a cop, so he hasn't exactly brought his country together either and he had eight years to do so. His victory speech was calm and like nothing of his angry and gobby campaign. Lets hope he can be trusted to unite the country because it's a scary thought him in such a position of power.
I think both the referendum here and the election in the US have shown that voters want soundbites over actual policies. "Taking back the country", "Making America great" and the like. It doesn't matter if it is an empty hand-waving gesture as long as it is emotive (and in many cases factually incorrect or outright lies).
We don't know know if it's an empty hand waving gesture, we will find out that in the next four years. It seems every president has their problems. It could have been dormat Hilary but instead they voted in the racist. The current president was the first black president but didn't do much to help his own and Obama Care less said the better. Before that Bush and his love of spending trillions. William Jefferson Clinton back in the day with his cheating. Very few candidates end up being squeaky clean.
Kennedy with his womanizing while he could hardly walk, Nixon and Watergate, Reagan and dementia. The list goes on. By the hand waving I meant that the soundbites often don't have any firm policy or truth behind them. Like "Making America Great", without actually setting out why America isn't great, or what he would change to improve it. The same with "Taking back control" - who from? How?
Re: Trust the Yanks... You could be on to something there. Get some celebrity with high public popularity and politicize them (not you Russell Brand) and move them to head of a major party with decent policies. Sorted.
Hey be careful on here, your not allowed to say things like that, pratts here will do your thinking for you
In reality they've been left behind by capitalism, and have voted for a capitalist to resolve there problems. There was only one candidate who had real solutions and that was Sanders.
To be fair though trump wants a stronger relationship with russia rather than poking the bear ala clinton and the tits in the eu are doing.
