our fans were amazing, on a par with walsall away in the league for effect they had on game, just realised that the fans should have got an assist for our 2nd goal, they were giving it the WERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR SHHHHH........................ treatment to their goaly on goal kicks etc, obviously got him rattled and he miskicked it straight to Kent and rest is history So well done our travelling away army ,lets get the Burton goaly rattled ,like we used to with Nigel Batch of Grimsby ,back in the day , nigel nigel nigel nigel nigel
The unwarranted but hilarious friendly abuse of keepers is one of the things I love about terraces. He took it in good humour tbf. And yes our support was magnificent at Brentford, easily one of the best I've been among.
also the "useless fecking useless" song when a player shoots and misses badly is a master stroke ,was lol when heard it, sing it in my head when ar lass drops summit or knocks summat over ,sat big smile on my face ,ha ha "useless fecking useless ,fecking useless narrr ne narrrr narrr narrr na "and repeat
Shame they can't drop the "Brentford's a sh....hole, I want to go home", sung at every ground. It's moronic. They'd probably sing it if we were playing in Europe and drew Monaco away. When I hear it at Oakwell from away fans I just think "Well, off you go then!" There have been plenty of stupid/pointless songs over the years and that is just the latest one. It doesn't add to the atmosphere - it just makes you sound ignorant.
The worst one is "Scab scab...." sung at Nottingham Forest on my last visit there, it was amusing for the first few minutes but when they kept it going for almost the whole of the first half, I found it a tad embarrassing.
My Brother in law has worked in Monaco a lot. He says it really is a sh1th0le - and he's not kidding, away from the nice bits it's really bad apparently. But no I agree it is moronic.
I've never been to Monaco but you can say the same about anywhere in the world. Brussels, Amsterdam, London - almost any capital city has it's fantastic bits surrounded by shabbiness, or even squalor. Cheltenham, Henley on Thames - places I know well. Mixture of all of the above. Even Harrogate, where I live now - smart Georgian/Victorian architecture with a couple of run down areas on the edges. The thing is that some people (including some on here) will never see anything good about a place. Naming no names, I've heard stuff about how horrible Bristol is. I know Bristol very well and it's a lovely city, but that doesn't mean that ALL of it is.
hang on stop , Hi jacking my thread praising the away fans , by slagging em all off, its only banter ,do you lot really think our fans think Lee Johnson as a hat he wears and in that hat he looks silly on putting it on wrong way, it wouldnt be the same if we sang "Brentfords an up and coming area with a few estates that still have issues "
All cities and towns are horrible. A tent on top of a mountain is the way forward. For a day or two, then a nice country pub.
only time ive cringed a bit was at shrewsbury when we was singing England and your just a siht town in Wales , oooops lads get an atlas
Quite right, some awful bits like Fishponds but otherwise a great place, always something to do and the people are friendly.
I'm not "slagging em all off". Just the brain dead, ignorant ones. Why sing anything at all about the town of Brentford? It's an ordinary, unremarkable suburb of west London with its downbeat parts and its decent parts. They are our hosts for the day and we should behave in the right way. I know that will never happen though. I love a great away-day atmosphere but there's no need for some of what away fans come out with. Leeds is an obvious example, with the Savile chants. I presume there will be plenty of similarly charming stuff when we go to Rotherham. I know what the response to this will be from some on here - something along the lines of "don't go then". Truth is that I don't go to many away matches, for a number of reasons. That's my choice but I know one thing. When I do go I know how to behave. For me travelling to an away match is all about enjoying the visit to a strange ground, enjoying the football and enjoying that winning feeling on the way home. Others have a different agenda altogether.
I'm neither brain dead nor ignorant thanks but happily sang it. It's part of the banter, part of the atmosphere, a bit tongue in cheek. It's all part of what you describe. It's hardly the height of bad behaviour is it now?
In fairness I joined in but I was doing it ironically. There are some places where it wouldn't be so ironic (Rotherham, Watford, any of the Lancashire mill towns for example) but it's all a bit of fun and light goading in my eyes. Whether some of the other people chanting it were being ironic I can't say . . .
