I know exactly what you mean. When I go to Germany I often get the impression when I go out that I'm the only English person there. The rest are all foreigners.
Let's just assume you're figures are correct (they're not, as has been pointed out elsewhere). The percentage increase is either 9% or 19%. Not 900% or 1900%. The figures (you have made up) have increased as a proportion of the whole. Even at the extremes of your (made up) figures the number of white British remains at 80%. So under your (made up) figures 2 out of every 10 people you saw today were not white British. So let's assume you saw 200 people today, you only saw 40 non-white British people. Under your made up figures. Not even enough to fill a (made up) coach.
You're talking about percentage changes as a proportion of the whole, for which you should use percentage points to measure the change. Otherwise you can misrepresent a small increase to seem like a scary overwhelming trend. Not that you would be intending to do that for one second...
You mean doing it properly? Instead of using estimate then I'll use the census data: Non-White population 1991 0.6%, 2011 2.9% Increase of 383%, and considerably underrated, no illegal immigrants on there and people who didn't fill in the census. More likely non-white population 5%, increase of 783%. No data on ethnicity of non British whites then but can't have been more than 1%, more likely 0.5%, is now 3.4% according to 2011 census. So an increase of 240 to 580% (though again evidence of eyes and ears suggests it's more). Like I said, big rises = Brexit vote.
Gloria I don't know you from Adam but based on what I've read on this thread it seems that you just don't like people. Full Stop. Some people are nasty. Some people are nice. Some people want to work hard. Some people are lazy. Some people want better lives for themselves. Some people aren't bothered about bettering themselves. Doesn't matter if these people are white, British, Asian, Polish, Syrian or Martian. People are what they are irrespective of what culture they are assigned to/come from. Try being nice and tolerant about people you have never met or conversed with. You may end up not being angry.
OK Ms Stitts a rise from 1% to 10% is a nine percentage points rise, not as you say a 900% rise Lets get this out in the open........ Show me your maths qualifications and I'll show you mine......... oooh err missus... Then everyone can debate intellectual rights......
I have just moved to PNG one of the most ethically diverse places on earth. I have been made very welcome, by all the people here. This thread makes me suspect that my new friends (and new converts as Barnsley fans) would not be made as welcome if they moved to Barnsley. Do we feel proud about this?
My wife is Korean and I get worried every time I take her back to Barnsley. Not because of this nonsense (though hopefully you can all forgive me for marrying outside my race), but because my parents have a pet dog. They'd be heart broken if she barbecued him.
It's both a 9 percentage point rise and an increase of 900% depending on how you wish to express it. Much as I don't like his politics there's nowt wrong with him saying that.
I've never come across a mathematical argument to back up feelings of hate before. Are you a real person or are you a computer programme which has got stuck in an endless loop?
The usual comeback - you are making the claim, the onus is on you to back that up with the links - not for someone who disputes what you say to look for them
You're off your rocker. Nobody uses percentages in this manner. If I went into a meeting and they said my company had a profit increase of 383%, I'd think bloody hell, we're doing really well. In reality, it's gone up 2.3%. Stop using percentages to sensationalise your views and beliefs.
I know every football club has some queer sorts of fans. But the thought of fellow supporters of other teams looking at our board is embarrassing..
