I know we have our differences and I still disagree with you on the acceptability of total uncontrolled free movement if only for the sheer logistical problems it would cause BUT..... One thing I agree with you on. Whatever race nationality creed or colour - people are people. There are great, good, not so good, and absolute scumbags in every culture, society and nationality. I try to take people on an individual basis as I find them.
One of the greatest lessons I have learnt over the years though is the fact that if you smile at someone, even strangers, more often than not, they WILL smile back even when they were not smiling before. You don't have to say anything, do anything, just smile as you, for example, hold a door open, or let someone through a narrow gap before you go through. It's all it takes. I know in London on the tube that gets you labelled as a nutter but that is because Many Londoners are miserable, couldn't give a sh*t about others , stressed out individuals. I should know as I was born down there but got away early doors and avoided becoming like that.

no that would be colour prejudice. and I don't see where I mentioned skin colour, unless, I did mention blue so that could be smurfs or those dudes out of avatar,but I know you mentioned colour. instead of " you can have an opinion so long as its same as mine" which is just total intolerance of anyones opinion irrespective of colour, creed or nationality that's different to theirs

My friend opened a German Chinese restaurant. The food is great but two hours after you've eaten you have an overwhelming desire to invade Poland!

The way we interact on here is a good example of that - we don't know much about each other as our identities are "hidden" behind our user names. We don't know what colour we are, we don't know what age we are, we don't even know who is male and who is female (as Ms Fired will confirm). We just judge each other based on what we post on here, and we decide whether we like one another, agree with one another, have something in common with one another, based purely on our postings. Obviously we don't all get on, but there's no hidden agenda based on "other" aspects of us.

I wish people could judge others based on their personalities, not on their religion, colour, nationality, wealth etc. Idealistic I know, but worth striving for.

 

OK! can we all stop with the Bernard Manning impersonations now...

Because people have moved to the town to work & try and bring prosperity for their families? Or because deep down we're just full of prejudice and scared **** less of people that are different to us?

 

The problem is not with those areas, but with wholesale immigration into one area until the entire population of an area becomes migrants. It also isn't a new issue - how many parts of the big cities have Jamaican, Indian or similar populations (original Polish community in Old Town) and forms a barrier. If these migrants were spread out more and allowed to build relationships with locals then it brings it down to a personal level and everyone would get on better.

One of the biggest problem though is religion, maybe we should just renounce all religions as outdated fiction and have a fully secular state.

 

You can't have a discussion about controlling immigration without the racist card being played. You should know the rules by now.

 

It's called change, change for the better. Adapt to it or do one to the Arctic.

Or more accurately, you can't have a discussion with a clear bigot without racism getting mentioned. It isn't just this post, stitts has a LONG history of bigoted and racist posts so of course the race issue is going to get mentioned every time he goes on a rant.

It's one thing to have an isolated discussion about immigration but when that discussion is started by somebody with a history of disgusting posts about foreigners then you can't just ignore the fact that they are a racist bigot. Their attempt to start the discussion suddenly has a different slant dont you think?

 

I'm not sure what 'stats' you're looking at but I can tell you categorically this is not the case for Barnsley at least - I know this through my job.

The issue we have is when up to 12 people (in extreme cases) are sharing a tiny terraced house. 8 people sharing is very common.

Landlords are not breaking any laws allowing this but I don't think it's something we should allow in this country. It's not a healthy lifestyle but in the bigger picture it affects the quality of life of the average working people in this country by keeping wages down - British people are not used to living in such conditions just to make it cheaper to have a roof over your head and no one should have to live like that.

Our friends from Eastern Europe may be used to this, some may even remember the the communist days of three families sharing a small apartment.

There's no way a person who works full time should have to live like this just to have any kind of disposable income but the truth is immigration has kept wages down and massively inflated the cost of housing.

This is why I believe a Brexit that allows us to tightly control immigration should be prioritised well above any impact on trade deals.

at the end of the day.... we are all human no matter what....all trying to do the best for ourselves and our families all trying to survive in this cesspit of a world, were greed and corruption and lies out number compassion and thoughtfulness ...if everybody treated each other with respect then the world would be a better place
