I've just read the latest newsletter and it really seems that they have not got a clue what they are doing. There appears to be absolutely no plan in place.

They were supposed to have already started knocking the multi story down but this was put back to this winter fr some reason, now it's put back by at least another year.

The new temporary market which they spent a lot of money on is now getting altered immediately with a new entrance opened up because their new altered timeframe plans mean that it will be needed.

The semi open market that was just emptied at huge cost is now to be filled back up with the indoor market stalls. Meat and fish is staying where it is for now, apparently completely cut off from the other markets by a building site.

They say that instead of demolishing the now completely empty semi information market immediately meaning they can crack on with building the replacement it will be a year quicker to fill it up now for a year or so and then empty it again and then knock it down and then rebuild. How the **** is that quicker?

They also say that moving the semi indoor market into the temporary market then moving the indoor market into the semi indoor market, then moving the indoor market back to the indoor market and then rebuilding the semi indoor market and then moving the semi market back to the new market saves moves. Saves moves? How about you just left the semi indoor market where it was and put the indoor market into the temporary one? Result? Indoor is empty, semi indoor is full and temporary market is full. But no it's much less moves to move one out then move the other in than to leave one where it was

It seems to me that key decisions are being made as and when without any kind of actual plan. The only thing that appears to be set in concrete is a contract with Henry boot to do all the work which hasn't even been decided on yet. He can they possibly know that Henry boot is the cheapest company to do this work when they signed them up as main contractors ages ago and are making such big decisions on plans today? What if Henry boot say it will be £20m to move the indoor to the semi but Dave and Dave's builders from Jeffrey say they can do it for £100k? Too late Henry boot were chosen for the whole project before they knew what the project really was.

Oh and despite the council telling me that the market gate carpark features high quality finishes and features not usually seen in carparks it is a brand concrete lined patch of tarmac which looks like an eyesore at the far end and looks decidedly unfinished

    Rant over

Only a thought, but with the economy collapsing and EU funding being withdrawn in advance of Brexit, the money might not be there any more...

Then come clean and stop trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes?

From a completely selfish viewpoint as I never go to Barnsley except to go to matches, I'm glad the multistorey closure has been put back!

But don't forget that a new better multi story was supposed to be built as well

I got the same email and the decision with regard to the movement of the markets was made after consulting with the market traders when a number of options were put to them. I assume that the way it's now to be handled is one that the market traders requested and, if that's the case, it shows that the Council are listening and willing to be flexible to ensure everyone is onside with the changes. As someone who uses both markets the decision to bring the two of them closer together makes sense to me. It's a shame they can't bring the meat and fish market over but I understand the reasoning behind that.

As I said would they not have been exactly the same distance apart if the indoor market had moved straight to the yellow box? Same result, cheaper and quicker

Was there ever any EU funding for it?

At least you got the Email ... mine was blank. I can't moan until I've read it.

They really need to knock down the Kendray St shop next .. though I can't remember what was supposed to be going there.. Oh, and the old Tech building.

I'd imagine that with nothing to replace EU funding the project is ****** but that the council will be approaching central government to request back fill funding ( probably unsuccessfully).

The project was delayed for a number of years while they attempted to secure EU funding

Those attempta were unsuccessful. Therefore, brexit won't affect the project

I think that originally a multi story was going there but that changed to being a line of restaurants which would form one side of the town square

The temporary building (barn)put up to house the market will end up being there for years and years .

Barnsley now has the embarrassing situation of having a big corrugated cattle shed in the town centre
