In the last few games we are matching our opponents in terms of total shots but they are getting four or five times more on target. It's become a consistent pattern and we need to work on it. I'm not clever enough to know what the answer is but it may be showing us a difference between the quality of Championship level defending versus our own? How do we improve it? We seem to have four good striking options? Baffled
Reading was 6/11 vs our 2/11 if I remember rightly, and Preston similar. Can't figure what explains it really, maybe better (quicker) closing down by their defenders?
Seems to go back to the Reading defeat ,looks as though it rocked our confidence but I think our mojo will return . We not getting turned over big time by teams who I thought we might have really struggled against.
According to BBC: Barnsley vs Reading Shots 22 vs 11 On target 6 vs 6 Brighton vs Barnsley Shots 15 vs 10 On target 4 vs 1 Barnsley vs Aston Villa Shots 13 vs 12 On target 2 vs 6 Leeds vs Barnsley Shots 10 vs 10 On target 5 vs 3 Prior to that we had 26/10 and 15/5 vs Wolves and Preston. It's probably just a bit of variance and playing slightly tougher opposition. However, if it continues it might be something that needs looking at...
The major problem i reckon is that we aren't getting the first goal. We keep having to claw results back of late.
We played OK today. Adam needs to play some more simple balls at times and we need Marley back up front. Otherwise can critisise little of today's team.
I seem to recall Hecky saying, during the period of us winning and scoring goals for fun, that we'd have less successful runs. When it happened, he hoped that everyone would rally round the players in the same way they did when we were picking up the points. Personally, I think the last couple of weeks has been a reality check for us in the Championship, as it's a far better standard than Division 1. However, these are still the same players who have scored goals aplenty and played some scintillating football during the current campaign. I've no doubt we'll get things back on track and have every confidence in Hecky.
We've battered two teams. In 11 games. No-one has battered us. We've been competitive in every game. That shows how far we have come. These lads will lose a fair few more games this season, but they are competitive in every game. I love it. I love the fact that we've got our players from lower league clubs and coached them to be better. I love the fact that we give younger players a chance, and I love the fact that clubs see us as a good place to loan their players to. We're doing things the best way we can.
