1. It was a newspaper sting, so that The Telegraph set it up with hidden camera, false agents/agency etc and recorded the evidence. 2. Had this been a genuine 'deal' the key players would have been the same, but the agents/agencies would have genuine and there would have been no hidden cameras to record what was said, or done. Therefore.... 3. The Telegraph is trying to show that this is the underhand and illegal way in which a great amount of football transfers involving agents are carried out. 4. The ones who have been 'stung' have been naïve.... the managers/club officials and agents who don't get caught are too clever for this, in fact, it is more likely to be in smaller clubs with less street-wise staff in which this sort of sting will work (heaven knows what Allardyce was doing in this respect, though). 5. If the allegations are correct, it may well constitute 'gross professional misconduct' by Tommy Wright, as it is alleged that he has taken cash from a third party for personal gain in the process of facilitating the sale of some of the club's most valued assets. If the allegations do prove correct and cannot be defended by TW and his legal team, he would then have be shown to have betrayed the club to a third party. If proved, that would be dismissible misconduct. 6. In spite of these 'stings,' no one really seems to be getting near to the truth about the deals which the press are unlikely ever to uncover and for sums way in excess of the £5k allegedly paid to TW. The BBC failed to land a significant punch at all in the Harry Redknapp programme some years back and, as there will not be hidden cameras at 'real' deals, I don't think the truth will ever fully be known. Having said all that. the club could just dismiss TW and let his team appeal. To be honest, that would seem like the most clinical way to deal with it from what had been alleged. It would probably mean an acting assistant coach for the time being, but we usually do well with those appointments. Now who was the last one? I am not certain that JFH and Cellini have transgressed in quite the same way as TW appears to have done, as the Telegraph does not seem to be alleging that they have actually gained in terms of personal finance from the discussions. Theirs are more the ethical issues. What a mess the game is in!!! Bring back maximum wage; all-standing; free woodbines; players' bus allowances to get to and from games. Where and when did the beautiful game die? RIP football.
The stories are for newspaper sales ,but it does highlight how the current system is open to corruption and abuse and needs changing to a more open process of dealings by clubs. Ffs the fact an assistant coach can be bribed for a major transaction by a football club is proof enough the system is wrong imo
Not followed this too closely as I'm in Prague and so have far better things to do, and discovered this morning that tickets for £35 to see Sparta v Inter tonite are still avail, but I digress.......but what is the difference between what TW has done and what Hasslebaink has done? We have suspended ours yet QPR have done nowt and appear to be backing him, when youd have thought given how they are performing theyd have taken the opportunity to bim him.
As I see it Wright actually took a cash payment to facilitate transfers that would have illegal strings attached Hasslebank asked for money to represent the firm in Singapore - there is no evidence he actually took any of it or that he didnt seek permission from his club to do so . - I still think Hasslebank is in the wrong but there isnt a smoking brown envelope
The best quote ive seen about the whole saga sums ul english football from top to bottom. More back handers than wimbledon
I don't think anyone has all the facts - its difficult to tell how much in the wrong he was. He was recorded tell the undercover reports: "I'm not doing it for myself, I want good players to come to the club so we can progress" He shouldn't have accepted the £5k though.
Weird thing is though, even if this had been a genuine meeting with no hidden cameras etc, our transfer formula has been working very well, I can't see why the club would have thrown that out of the window, surely Tommy knows that.
He may well have. He possibly thought process: £5k for setting a meeting up, set the meeting up knowing nothing will come of it because Cryne and Hecky will tell em to do one, buys a new conservatory with his £5k. Carry on as normal.
From what I understand is, he only agreed to recommend players to the club who were 'from' the fake agency or whatever it was. That doesnt mean that we'd have agreed to sign any of them. Infact, that completely rules out Hecky or Cryne or anybody else because if they were involved in any way, TW wouldnt be having to persuade. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ooh yes, go. Chanced my arm for Sparta-Barcelona some years back. Sold out, but bought one from a fella outside for around £8. Cracking atmosphere. Pep in the Barca side, with LVG their gaffer!
