In my opinion Middlesex or Yorkshire will win the championship. The captains will contrive a victory on way or another.
Not sure what Middlesex's game plan is - 80 runs from 35 overs - looks like they are batting out for a draw Surely they have to have a go and set us a target Shame we didnt get another wicket this evening - sounds like they rode their luck a bit
Extra 15k a man for coming second. I can't believe any sports man would play for second though We will end up chasing 200 in 25 overs with 8 men on the boundary
Sorry, didn't mean it to come across like that was genuinely interested because your views seemed pretty robust, particularly regarding Gale. I think your point is a pretty valid one regarding cricket, but I'm not sure that can be laid at his door, it's across the game. Isn't Anderson the only England player not to come through the public school system? They get spotted and hoovered up on scholarships
God knows their tactics have been strange this game. Could see them setting us 200 off 20 or something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think Gale might retire especially if he can go out off the back of a treble. He's only in the team with his average of barely twenty because he's captain. His captaincy is fantastic looking at just this game alone. Batter light, all rounder at 5, five seemers, letting home team bat first on thier home pitch to get runs on the board and so far it's looking all good when had they got 400-450 and got us out for 250-325 questions would have been asked. Now having five good fast bowlers to go at Middlesex and promoting Bresnan up the order after we put them under pressure with early wickets he looks in a very good light as he should.
I watched/listened to Middlesex's reply today completely baffled. I've no idea what their plan is, if they're playing safety first with the Championship on the line I'm amazed, and their members will surely be furious. Commentators suggested maybe they're looking to set us something daft like 160 in 20 overs with no powerplay etc like T20 knowing we have to go for it. But they're hardly giving themselves much chance then are they? Surely they'd want 50 overs, but can't see how they're going to get anywhere near that many. The mind boggles.
Much of what you've described as tactical genius was actually forced upon the team. No toss meaning we can bowl first under clouds, no JB, Adil, or Root leaving resources bare, no form batters meaning Bressie has to bat 5, Rafiq in as spinner but making a vital 65, Jack brooks having a good day instead of his bad ones. It's all coming together! Now what's going to happen today is a mystery, we really should have declared at 350 IMO. That would have given Middlesex more time to set a target and us more time to bowl them out making 2 ways of winning. We've really only got one option left now that's to bowl like demons this morning and try blow them away It's a very strange Middlesex captain who seems intent on playing for second place when they've been leading for much of the year
Second option of Middlesex declaring and we chase. They will have to set up something today whatever that is.
Not a good start to the morning Need a few wickets - these 2 are looking well set but still look like they are playing not to lose rather than trying to win. They dont look to be giving themselves enough runs to set a target that will work
Re: Not a good start to the morning Reckon they'll try and set us 250 from 30/35 overs. Although the pain if we do lose will be dampened a bit by the fact I'm enjoying my first cold beer of two weeks of Menorcan sunshine
Re: Not a good start to the morning I just hope that if we get ourselves in a situation where we can't win, we just block out a draw so negative Middlesex don't win. Would much rather it go to Somerset after the last 3 days.
Re: Not a good start to the morning I can see the logic in this, but it is leaving a bit of a sour taste in the mouth...If either us or Middlesex win, then I wont be able to help not feeling sorry for Somerset...
Re: Not a good start to the morning 6 p/o isnt out of the question, in fact I think its a bit generous...
