These were from companies out of the area, with the drivers sat waiting in them.

l read somewhere that half of the retail space in the town centre is not owned by the council, therefore their hands are tied with the rents etc.

I was under the impression that the council own everything on the hmv side and did own the part which was knocked down for the temporary market but somebody else owns the boots side of cheapside

I had a couple of years working in King's Lynn and there were coach trips to the market from there and a family I lived with for a while use to visit the Metrodome. Barnsley's better than people who live here think.

I'm not a fan of markets myself but my mother-in-law and some of her mates travel on the train from Sheffield every week to Barnsley Market.
She says it's brilliant but I'm not sure what defines a brilliant market.
For those who enjoy a browse round them it looks as though ours is one of the best.

I just go the Asda. It's cheaper and the veg lasts longer. Failing that I go to a farm shop, it's the same price and the veg lasts longer

Yeah the council own everything on the HMV side, I get the impression the rents got raised whenever a Tennant left a shop as they didn't want to lease anyone to it due to the council wanting to pull it down very soon.

I'm away on holiday at the moment but I seem to think there's a big bus trip tomorrow coming from Newcastle.

Here's something a few of you might not have known.... alot of people comment on how poor supermarket fruit and veg is and how rubbish the dates are, this is because you've bought the drags from webb bros and vepack. Supermarkets buy huge amounts from these huge wholesalers at a discounted rate if they buy the produce after the wholesalers had it in stock for over a day. It is then jet frozen, bag packed and put on shop floors within 2 days. Not many people knew this, I only know this as prior to working for myself I worked as a shelf stacker at tesco! They told us how to organise the best dates and so on and why they had to be stacked in a certain order.

So fresh fruit isn't all that fresh from supermarkets, just think how cheap Aldi and Lidl produce is! You can buy a watermelon for 34p and that's a big one at that.... how old is it? Is it fresh? I'll let you decide.
