Any one on here had a hip replacement?

I'm down to have one and just wondered what the recuperation is like?

If there are enough of us we could start our own clique...the hip-hop clan?

 

Not me

but my dad had one and a friend of mine had one recently, dad was about 75 (in 1995 ish) and he seemed to be ok within 6 months. The friend (65) was on crutches for a month but she's been walking without any support for a couple of months at least, not sure when she had it done but it was sometime early this year.

 

Not personally, but my mother in law had one done around four years ago, when she was about 76. She was in hospital about three days. While it took her a while to regain mobility we are talking days into weeks, rather than months. She says, as do most people, that the op transformed her mobility compared to before. Her recovery was amazing, although she is a determined woman! The astounding thing was, she opted for a local anaesthetic! That's VC territory, for me. There's a fair bit of sawing and banging, but she was happy enough with the pain relief and the background music. I suppose the disadvantage for us fellers is we can't compare it to the experience of giving birth to four kids!

 

I had a kidney stone earlier this year and have it on good authority that it's worse than childbirth. Certainly the worst pain I've ever had.

 

Don't mention that to my Missus. She has a rather unsettling metaphor involving melons!

Had mine 4 years ago, that leg is nearly 1 inch longer than it was. Can't go anywhere without my stick. The muscles in the leg took months to stretch so I could straighten it. I can walk short distances only, when I mentioned the 1 inch difference I was told that 2 inches is acceptable ????

My source was a woman who's had a child and a stone.

 

My mum is 79 and had a full hip replacement 5 weeks ago. She's now getting around the house unaided, having discarded the zimmer frame and refuses to use the stick. Stubborn bugger. She's itching to get back to Meadowhall but realistically that's probably a month or two away. She also had a local anaesthetic and was fascinated with what was going on, so much so that she's watched a YouTube video of the operation since.

Hip replacement? Pah!
I've just been stung by a wasp! TWICE! In my own flipping home, too. But did I cry? I DID NOT! I swore a lot and killed the blooming thing. But I didn't cry!
Personally, I believe the club ought to give you one of the executive boxes for you and your friends free of charge, until you've made a full and complete recovery.

 

What good is that to a dead wasp?
