I read Hemsworth Tyke's post on the Reading defeat and I couldn't see anything wrong with it as a point of view. I don't know the person at all but he was expressing a view about a match. That's all he did. He had a view because he watched a match.... The thing that struck me was how much aggression he got subjected to in subsequent posts. I thought it was out of order (by some, not all of course). It's irrelevant to me what his financial status is, what he does for a living, what shirts he wears..... why do people have to mention such things? If he has a view then he should be ok to explain it, which I think he attempted to do. There may be more history to this than I am picking up on but I just thought several posters were really rude on that thread
Most people reading one of his post for the first time or not really taking much notice of his previous posts or history would think the same as you. Think most are getting annoyed with his constant digs at Winnall and Houriane especially, but anyone popular with Bfc fans HT dislikes and most his posts develop in to a dig at these players. Even after a win he will concentrate on any missed chances or mistakes rather than praise them. his opinion is that players are only any good if they are younger than 20 and attached to a premier team. No idea why he follows Barnsley to be honest
By his own admission he is really positive "in non Internet land". But on here he is negative and drags both the team and fellow posters down. Constantly. He is the only one on here who refuses to join in this fantastic ride we have been on. I have NOTHING against the lad at all. If he walked into Redfearns I'd have a drink with him, and a good chat (cos he seems to live for football) but on here I have given up on him. BTW, he'd love that you have posted this, I kind of think it's what he chases. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
I agree . Although I have been on here years i don't post that much but read most threads , I've never been offended by one of Hemsworth's posts, It's a site for opinions , his are a bit leftfield maybe and a little hard to decipher sometimes but hey ho . Remember at School when the kid who was a bit different always got bullied , it seems a bit like that to me . The good thing is , he doesn't seem to care what others think of him and he certainly makes this forum a livelier place .
Agree 100%. I don't post here anymore, but read most days and I must say that it seems everyone is allowed an opinion as long as it's not Hemsworth!
Yes but he goes to every game especially away games. Woe betide anyone who does not. That's what counts.
If I voiced my opinion 5 times a week that Chicken Balti pies are just plain wrong and I don't like them, after a couple of months people would tell me to stop banging on about Chicken Balti pies. Cos by that time it is no longer an opinion, it's just repetitive b0110cks.
Really? I disagree. Read his opening post again. It is veiled digs at the club for daring to sign non league and lower league players. It is veiled digs at the club for not signing premier league players. It is veiled digs at players on his hit list -Hourihane,Winnall etc. He is a grown adult. I am sure he said he is 25 years of age. Do you think that by other posters disagreeing with him makes people bullies? It is the same old guff day in day out. We won 2 away games on the spin-not a peep from him. We lose one at home and its a blatant negative onslaught. I have tried to use the ignore feature with him and it makes a mess of the forum. He is consistant and i cannot see it stopping.
Not met him myself but know a few who have and he seems a decent lad, he's even admitted himself he's very positive in "non internet land" He does irritate people with his constant digs at our popular players and the "I'm the better supporter cos I go to every match" quotes but I reckon he's Just on a wind up.
I write as someone who often has a minority view of games, and who likes to express that view, and who often attracts abuse from a number of posters because of it. It disappoints me that the BBS is not the forum for debate that I would like it to be, but this forum is what the majority want it to be. If the majority wish to read stuff that they already agree with, and the majority wish to stifle debate, then that is what the forum will be. In my view, the forum should be a home for all opinions. Those posters who disagree with an opinions should debate that opinion without rancour, but they should only do so if they have respect for the poster whose views they disagree with, and they should only enter into debate if they are confident that they can do so without losing their temper. Debate is not like a game of football. There are not usually any winners or losers. But many on the BBS expect that one of their points will be the knock-out blow, the one that wins the contest. Debate just does not work like that. All that you can hope for is that your arguments will educate. That they change the way the other party looks at things for the future. Constantly referring to past perceived victories makes that outcome less likely. The above paragraph makes it look like I support Hemsworth Tyke. In fact, I have never responded to any post by him, even the rude one from several years ago concerning my view of the future prospects of Paul Digby. The reason is that I have a rule that I only debate with posters that I have respect for and who I believe can understand and respond to the points that I make, and I never respond to personal abuse. Hemsworth Tyke clearly loves his football, but that does not mean that he understands the game to the degree that he believes that he does, or that his grasp of the written word allows him to express his opinions in the way that he would want. Sadly, his opinions seem to come from the undigested and misunderstood comments of the great and the good of the sport that he picks up from various media sources and files away because they will make him appear more knowledgeable about the game than he actually is. People entering into debate with him are effectively entering into debate with a third party, whose opinion is coming to them down a malfunctioning telephone line. And that is the frustration that most posters feel so strongly.
No, THAT sounds like school kids. I think a couple above have explained quite eloquently why they don't / can't do that.
People purposely look for the worst in his posts which is plain wrong. However he doesn't help himself by starting every post with "people have said this". I think this gets people's back up. Sent from my phone using my hands
This is a football forum and HT has a right to say what he likes. He also has to expect that the views he posts and the way he posts them are going to draw strong responses. Anyone who regularly reads his posts know what he's about and also know that a good 90 percent of them are veiled attempts (thinly or otherwise) to wind up a reaction. That's fair enough. Tedious but fair enough. He can't, however, then cry foul about being taken to task. He knows his views on Hourihane, Winnall and Roberts plus their insignificance as players compared to a 19 year old Chelsea loanee are going to draw a strong reaction yet he labours the point over and over again. My concerns in the past have been that players who read this forum, and it has been stated that some do, might have their confidence knocked by constant criticism. However, if they've read enough of the forum they will have realised that HT's sometimes idiotic ideas are so far removed from the mainstream of opinion on here as to be pretty laughable. Sometimes though people lose their sense of humour and bite, me included. But, as I said, it's a footy forum and those who don't agree have a perfect right to take him to task within reason and without recourse to overstepping the mark.
It's unreal how people respond to this lad. He's got his views, so what. Doesn't have a bad bone in his body from what I can see.
