I'm off into Manchester tomorrow with the missus. We're off out for a meal in the evening, but late afternoon we're off to have a few drinks (probably cocktails, seen as though it's her birthday - the nerve of some people!)

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone knew of any decent spots that also served a good pint of real ale.

    Cheers in advance.

Marble Arch is one of my favourite real ale pubs full stop not sure it'll do cocktails, mind. For that sort of thing you want the soup kitchen/ alchemist or mojo is nice and cheap too. Off the top of my head.

Take the missus to Albert Schloss. She'll love it and you can have a pint of Pilsner Urquell Tank Beer. Win win. Brewdog Bar nextdoor as well.

Cafe Beer Moth is worth a visit as well for a beer.

    Great, thanks.

We're staying near Piccadilly Gardens and eating at Mr Cooper's House and Garden (Midland Hotel?). I've never been round Manchester so are all the places mentioned in walking distance?

    Thanks again.

    Poet,

I concur with most of the above, my mate lives there so I'm over once every 3 weeks.

If you want cocktails and a bargain 'Rev De Cuba' off Deansgate on Peter St has happy hour 5pm - 7pm and its packed..........kinda like a bar in Sheffield at 22:00 ;-) usually have live Cuban music on too. This is on same Street as Albert Schloss which again will be packed good choice Loko..........same street as Brewdog. If you are @ Piccadilly its walkable for sure..but its a decent walk and if its raining you are screwed. Totally disagree with comment re: chavvy Deansgate......Spinnigfields is off here and that's as far from chavvy as you'll get. Plus its got Alchemist (top cocktail venue) If you do stay on Deansgate walk up towards Northen Q and stop at the newly opened Be at One in the arcade.....again awesome cocktails

Best craft beer and real ale is to be found in the Northern Quarter.......loads of pubs selling it.........the area is bang next to Piccadilly gardens. I concur with Whiskey Jar........Dusk Till Pawn.......Kosmonaut etc. All good

Depends what you doing? Day drinking or night drinking? Nowehere better on a Saturday afternoon than Manchester for day drinking.

Northern Q very lively at night.

Last few trips over there have physically and financially ruined me on hard liquor......but oh so worth it. Only place other than Leeds worth bothering with

    Enjoy

Albert Schloss is pretty much opposite the Midland.

Not many places that will do cocktails as well as ales. Cloud 23 in the Hilton has great views if you want to treat her, but its pricey and doesn't do ale.
