If someone had told me we would win 4-0 at Wolves I really would have expected us to take 2nd place back from Newcastle - after all our GD was only one worse than theirs. Id agreed to go to a game with a QPR supporting mate and as I couldnt go to Wolves I thought QPR Newcastle looked a good game to go to and one I would have no problem supporting the home team. I might even come away from Loftus Road happy for a change or so I thought. Newcastle were good - no question about that, in fact 6-0 flattered QPR and Newcastle in double figuers wouldnt have been unfair. but QPR were woeful so its hard to judge how good Newcastle really were. Poor mate was gutted - worst defeat he had ever seen and I dont think it helped when I showed him our score and mentioned mentioned this was the worst defeat I had witnessed to for a team I was "supporting" home or away excluding cup against top flight opposition ( I missed the Reading 7-0 in the Clarke era and I cant think of any 6 goal defeats at home in the 46 years I have been watching us) Mate wants me to take him to the Brighton v Barnsley game as the return match I just dont know if I dare, what if he is the Jinx?
Oops I had somehow forgotten that - I was at the game as well, that was the game that convinced me we were relegated that season.
