Morning guys Just had a break with the missus up in the lakes. Managed to get some prep in for my Yorkshire three peaks this Saturday by doing the Coniston Old Man walk via Dow Cragg. The views up there always blow me away. what a beautiful country we love in.
Lucky bugger - I love the lakes and the Old Man is a good way to spend some energy - if you have time a walk along to Swirl How and down to Wetherlam returning via the South ridge is very pleasant (apart from the scramble down Prison band which is fun but not just a nice walk) Hoping to get up there for a week in October as walking in the North Downs just isnt the same
We have done that once before. Came down through the.middle of the slate mine. My favourite views from the top of there.
Good on you getting more exercise done. I'm currently on day 45 without cigarettes and day 13 without alcohol (sounds like an AA meeting!) Started football once a week and running two/three times a week and feeling far better for it. Watching what I eat has certainly been helping too! If I recall correctly you're doing a marathon? - Best of Luck with it!
I dont know if I have a real favourite as I change my mind and there are many great view points, but the views from the top of Great Gable take some beating
The scramble to the top of Dow Cragg is jaw droppingly scary with the shear cliff face just a few feet away.
I dont remember it being that terrifying but its some years since I've been on Dow Cragg so maybe its just faded from memory. The ones that scared me most were Halls Fell on Blencathra and Pillar by the High Level path - not sure I will be doing either of those again!
My good lady and I completed the Wainwright 214 fells last year. Jack's Rake ascent of Pavey Ark is the most errr how can I put it ... interesting. Sharp Edge on Blencathra is also concentrates the mind.
The 'Easy Gully' route up? This lowlands monkey wasn't so keen on all the crumbling rocks and dirt climbing up there. One lad ended up in the fetal position after traversing a ledge and having to jump onto some scree. I was left clinging to the ledge while someone coaxed him back round. These things never happened to Wainright.
