For someone with 6 months on his contract? Less than a million. No-one is gonna pay that amount when they can wait and get him on a free. If he signs a 3 year contract in January then with the marker of 6.5m for Alfie then we have to be looking at 8-10m surely? I know those amounts of money aren't associated with us but we have a top Championship player and they go for nigh on 10m these days.

well if our backroom boys are as shrewd as we think then....

In my view they should offer Connor an extension of a further year or eighteen months on his contract..... but assure him that should a bigger club come a calling that they would seriously take note and give him the chance to progress... this way we could command a bigger figure for him due to contract buy out etc. This would give both him and us a chance to capitalize on an asset also it would get him a bigger transfer percentage. But it could be that we did a Bournemouth and got a promotion... this could mean Connor could play in the prem with a team that's helped him supported him and with fans who worship him.

    Just a thought

    :)

Conor is an ambitious young man. He isn't going to sign a new contract he would be daft to do so.

I think he should sign another contract considering all the work Barnsley have done with him I think he owes us.
But players Don,t these days all they think about is themselves.

    He owes us nothing!

It would be great if he signed a new deal but I can't see it. He wants t play in the premier league and for Ireland. If only championship clubs come in then I think he may stay but if a premier league team comes in then you can't fault him for wanted to fulfill his ambitions.

You're right, the majority of the time they only think of themselves but what else do you expect when clubs only think of themselves too and fans only think of themselves as well? It's life and there is nothing wrong with it

I am beginning to wonder if anyone has actually grasped the point I am trying to make

    I somehow think not.

Re: I am beginning to wonder if anyone has actually grasped the point I am trying to

I understand it but it tends not to be the way the world works these days. The power lies with the player and they would be daft to give up that power. He won't sign a contract ( even one with provisos) because it narrows his options by not signing one he retains all his options and can maximise the financial benefit from any potential change of employer.

He owes us NOTHING. We signed him, we offered him the contract, which he signed, naturally the more games he plays at a higher level the better he becomes. Without him I dread to imagine where we would be. Absolute steal of a buy, a real diamond of a player to have in the team. Any human naturally wants to better themselves in any walk of life, why shouldn't he want to strive to play in them premier league and his country? We should be grateful we've had him here

    Point taken

    and well made sir.

I still think we and he could manipulate the market to mutual benefit for both sides.... but then we have to think about the Devil that is called ' AGENT'

Also non of us on here know if Connor has any kind of 'Trigger' in his contract to allow him to go, if he was to be sold in January then it would maybe not for the value that us the fans place on him at present... perhaps the best bet would be to negotiate a very lucrative sell on clause, and hope he develops massively in order for us to cash in on such bonuses.

Even if he's sure he wants out how about signing a long contract so we can net 5-10 million?

    Call it a parting gift.

We won't get anything will we? He is free to sign pre contracts with other teams with 6 months left is he not?

Only to foreign clubs mate. English clubs can't. Although if rumours are true about Celtic, they could offer him one yes.

If clubs had to fork out 10million+ it would still probably mean he'd get less in terms of signing on fees and wages. Personally what I would do is offer him a mega bucks contract, with a release clause in it. And then a relegation release clause whats even cheaper. He'd still find a club easily

Have we actually had that confirmed? By anyone?? A very good source tells me it was £3.5 plus "add-ons" (whether that means a sell-on % or extra based on appearances, I'm not sure).
