totally agree - what the guy does after nightfall is his own business and it's not my place to judge him.
I paid for an Escort once but it was a very unsatisfactory experience and I pretty soon swapped it for a 3-series.
Because police officers and other civil servants who are sacked also lose th heir pension. However we all know MPs pay by their own corrupt rules ...
He is a civil servant. One who is supposed to represent his constituents and the country on an international scale. Any other civil servants in the same position would lose their job and pension. He is also supposed to set an example.
No I'm comfortable walking away from work knowing I've contributed to building a home for a family to live in alongside other hardworking honest people. I wouldn't last so long where corruption, backhanders and ineptitude are the norm. I also live in the real world as oppose to a pompous, out of touch bubble.
Depends on how you mean. The going basic pay for an MP is ~£75k, plus expenses that most people could only dream of - including the cost of a second home near work - and many of them employ family members to work for them on decent salaries. Try getting some of the expenses they claim past the taxman! So, in terms of income it is well above national average, but there are long hours (with big breaks in the summer), its not a guaranteed long term future, you have to help your constituents with their problems and there is a supposed to be a lot of responsibility and accountability for the work they do. Oh, and you are supposed to be squeaky clean or at least not be caught!
An equivalent post in industry with the same level of decision making capabilities and responsibilities would pay more. So that's the benchmark I'd go with. I'm not saying they are on the breadline they get ok renumeration but not overly generous. Personally speaking I'd end all perks other than pension etc and pay them more whilst barring all outside interests and 2nd jobs.
No one was forced to do anything they didn't want to - everyone was over 18 - no one was hurt - what's the problem? But it concerns me he had a massive property portfolio - sent his children to private school - lived like a Tory....
I'd make the London accommodation belong to the constituency rather than the MP. That way they don't effectively have a second home bought as a perk of the job - it just passes to their replacement when they leave office. Travel they need between base and Parliament, but I agree with you on the 2nd job.
Its not quite so simple though is it. He has a wife and children so I am not sure having sex with male prostitures and doing drugs is the moral behaviour we expect from a politician. Maybe his wife is OK with it (Mine wouldnt be !) but even so the prostitution industry is borderline legal and full of exploitation of vulnerable people. His position is untenable (unless he really was setup but he hasnt actually denied any of it has he so I doubt he was an innocent victim)
Lets not forget a member of The Royal Family was implicated in an underage sex and prostitution scandal in the USA. He was only protected because the Judge would not allow evidence against him in Court. That seems to have been swept under the table as does John Whittingdales little adventures.
