Doncaster Rovers fan on Radio Sheffield. Saying that us them and Rotherham are similar sized clubs with differing fortunes. Attributing ours to the sale of Mawson and the money from Stones. Did say that we've got a good thing going on and that we need to bottle whatever it is that's churning out these top young players. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Don't want to sound all Wednesday about this but were a bigger club than Rotherham and have been for years if any of their fans claim any different their just as delusional as the lot in Sheffield and Leeds who claim to be "sleeping giants
Donny and Rotherham both got that 'new ground' syndrome, both have traditionally been a lot lower in the pyramid than us whilever I've been watching Barnsley, that's not saying that we aren't punching slightly above our weight at the moment with the league position, but it's early days.
Donny similar sized club? Wow they really are still deluded. On what basis? Their crowd, ground, history.... Never been near ours. They've sunk to their level now, we are at ours. Rotherham the same, they're playing at our level and that's about it.
There was a Wednesday fan on there the other day saying that we were lucky regarding the Stones transfer money. So apparently the years of work to develop an England international through the academy, then the financial acumen to capitalise on that by putting a sell on clause when we sell them is all down to luck. Aye, ok then. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
If I remember right, whoever hosted the programme that night pointed out that luck has absolutely nothing to do with it. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
absolutely correct too you make your own luck in this world. My wife and I have been able to retire early at 60. How, because we invested well, saved a tidy sum and also paid extra into pension schemes. We worked for this for 40 years , neither of us being out of work for the said period with the exception of 6 months maternity leave for my wife in 1975. We have our prime careers, engineering for me and the catering trade for my wife. BUT we did one or two jobs that were totally unconnected to our main callings rather than sit on our arses .... but we are still told we are lucky. I see it differently, our so called luck was paid for in blood, sweat and tears over that 40 years.... So now Barnsley are being hailed as lucky, for installing a strict regime of finance, scouting, coaching etc... no luck involved there at all...just bloody hard work and common sense..... which most of our neighbouring clubs seem to lack.
Re: absolutely correct too Maybe Wednesday could do with working a bit of 'luck' into their own club. Who have they developed in the last how many years? They didn't get their money from their own graft. It was from the east. People in glass houses n all that
