Ok, so it's not a football post, but the story that broke this weekend about the guy really gets my hackles up. He appears holier than thou when in select committees in parliament, yet he gets caught with two rent boys asking for sex with them and asking them to provide drugs (all allegedly). However he hasn't denied any of it, he's paid out of OUR taxes. Will be get sacked? No. He just has to resign as chairman of the commons select committee. If that were any one of us we would no doubt be sacked, lose any monies due to us and certainly NOT be able to claim a pension. I beer vaz doesn't get sacked or lose any of his pension. But I really bloody believe he should. Why should he get away with stuff like this and be paid a huge Lewiston from the public purse ????????? Arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh Rant over, nearly
At least I think he said, those that judge should also be judged. But as this can be construed as an admission, then he should have probably resigned long ago. But hey, this committee he was chairing was toothless anyway, just trying to show concern, a political thing, pollititions were most likely paid extraordinary amounts of. Indy to attend. Good ridence to it. But Jeremy will sort him out as he says it's a private issue.
Point me out 1 single politician or local councillor that deserve the overinflated pay that they get/ claim whatever you want to call it. In fact, don't bother on my account, I simply wouldn't agree with you.
I hate pompousness, self-importance and empire-building. I came across it a lot in my working life. It seemed to me to come out of the Great Vaz like a soda stream. I do think though that if the job is done honestly and conscientiously (which is the case far more often than people acknowledge) then an MP is not paid an awful lot at just shy of 75K. And while I often disagree with what many local councillors do or say, I wouldn't have their role, which is paid very little indeed for the responsibility involved.
Wasn't he also one of the worst offenders of claiming (within the rules) excessive expenses. He's getting all he deserves and I hope his electorate show him what they think too.
Can't say as I like the bloke, but.... It's all alleged at the moment. I wouldn't want anyone sacked on allegations. If he has done what is reported then, that's a different matter and questions need to be asked about any laws that he may have broken. But, if you'd bought a few hours with a rent boy or prostitute, would you expect to lose your job?
Am I the only one who opened this thread expecting it to be about Keith Hill signing Ricardo Vaz Te. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
He hasn't lost his job as an MP, he's resigned from his position as chair of a committee that were reviewing the very things he's been allegedly doing. When you sit in a position of morality then you have to abide by a code of ethics and on this count he has failed IMO.
Not saying he should have walked ...or been sacked, but the media jumping on the fact that's it was male prostiitutes is a bit predictable. I'll bet that if it was two female prositutes the story would have been a bit further back than the front page. Doesn't change the fact that he's a scum bag. But not because of that.
Male or female doesn't matter, the very fact that pillow talk to prostitutes then becomes a risk of blackmail, remember the Profumo case in the early 60's, of course Vas is far junior. Also he has for all purposes admitted it and he was supposed to be the conscience of the nation. All bull of course, just a means of claiming more cash for what was after all a pointless appointment in the first place.
I agree with what you say, but I don't think he should be able to put himself up for election again. Quite simply be should be sacked and lose his salary and any pensions he is due.
It not about being gay or rent boys it's about hypocrisy, and also why the taxpayer has bought him a flat 10 miles from where he lives.
Think he's a scumbag for doing that to his wife but professionally I don't see what he's done wrong really. Poppers are legal and commonplace in the homosexual (and otherwise) community and escorting is legal. Who knows maybe his wife was aware of it in which case it's his business in my opinion. Feel it's a bit unfair that this one is being made an example of due to being caught when I wouldn't be surprised if a large proportion of people in the public eye engage in similar activities. Especially footballers.
He's a sitting MP. The electors will decide if he needs sacking after taking everything he's done as an MP into account. And why should he lose his pension?
Keith Vaz always seems to sail close to the wind, but Has he committed a crime? No. Having sex with a man isn't illegal. Nor is paying for sex, or taking poppers, whatever they may be. Was there any National Security issues? None have been revealed. Was he set up in a news paper sting, yes. He can do what he wants for me provided it is legal.
There's no comparison here with the John Profumo affair. The ladies Profumo was associating with were also sleeping with Soviet military men.
