    - First one is took just down from where Specsavers is looking towards what is now the Alhambra. The white building on the right is still there, Barnsley Building Society.
    - Second one, bus station in the same place, you can see the courthouse building in the background and the church was where Whispers was, l believe.
    - Third one, obviously Market Hill pre town hall, the rusty sculpture is now where the buildings in the foreground are. The two bank buildings at the front are still there. Roughly took where the mushroom used to be
    - Fourth one, probably where Poundland is now is looking towards the Civic and pictures
    - The final one some of our older posters might be able to help with but it looks like its near the outpost on Sheffield Road looking towards town, view now blocked by the Alhambra

Barnsley much as how I remember it apart from Market Hill. Thanks for posting them.

The Town centre was ruined in the seventies by those ugly concrete/pebble-dash constructions now occupied by WH Smiths, Boots etc and the indoor market.

I'm relieved that Regent Street and Market Hill escaped the bulldozers.

I imagine early 70's when the market and surrounding areas were destroyed.

Whoever's decision a lot of that was should have been strung up, don't get me wrong that pub isn't going to win any awards for it's design but it's a building with character, just like a lot of those that were knocked down at the time.

The plans for the stuff going up now will probably seem just as bad in the future. Why not build stuff out of brick? The Alhambra is a decent example of how things could be built in the modern era, again not a classic building but it will never really look dated.
