Have you seen Hourihane's stats for tackles and interceptions? He's fvcking brilliant without the ball.

Hemsie what are you gunna do when Hourihane signs for Real Madrid in 2 years time after impressing in the Premier league with "battling Barnsley" after his goals, work rate, set-pieces, leadership, assists and fantastic accent propels Barnsley into a mid-table stable Prem side?

Bale is a world class footballer, no doubt, you've described his attributes well. Personally I admire more of the unsung heroes, those who do a lot of the unseen work, make the best of what talent they have. That's not saying I don't admire Bale, I do, he just means very little to me.

At international level, the players I admire are the likes of Andres Iniesta, Phillipe Lahm, and in years gone by, Andreas Brehme, Lothar Matthaus, even players like Beardsley and Lineker. But again, they mean little to me in the grand scheme of things.

That's why you'll see a lot affection, not just respect or admiration, for the likes of our own heroes at Barnsley. Hourihane now, Hassell and Foster, Redfearn and Eaden not too long ago, Gerry Taggart, David Currie , my own heroes from years ago Steve Cooper and Ronnie Glavin. The difference is they were ours, are ours, they've all done memorable things for Barnsley relative to the level we played at, given me adrenalin rush, pleasure, glory, pain, you name it. They've squeezed every ounce of ability out of their bodies, put their head and limbs on the line in every games they play. And that why I love them. And only admire Bale.

    So what?

It's called being a fan and appreciating the talent that we have in our team - the best players we've had for a long time and all you do is criticise them and take pot-shots because they don't play for Real Madrid.

Like another poster said, we're not comparing them as equals because that isn't how it works in football. We know they're not as good as the likes of Bale so we're comparing relatively - our best players doing for Barnsley what other players do for their clubs.

You just don't get it and it's pointless trying to explain it.

He's come on a lot since Disco from little old us ripped him several new holes in his backside.

Brilliant player as he is, I remember Bale playing for Southampton at Oakwell and Disco sat him on his asre a couple of times, so how good was Devaney?

Seen him live twice. Once when he got ripped to shreds by Devaney; and this summer for Wales V Belgium, where he was fantastic. His work rate was fantastic.

He is without doubt a great player, showing alot of pro footballers what to do on the pitch. Nothing complicated. To me the big thing was wanting the ball, all the time. Being comfortable to take it when closely marked, and either keep it, or move it on. In contrast to the England squad, hiding at throw ins, not taking responsibility for the simple things, and incapable of a single decent set piece delivery.

I cannot understand the constant veiled digs by a so called Barnsley fan towards undoubtedly one of our most improved important impressive and consistant players.

There is absolutely no need for it.

In a time when folk can't afford to go to every match, or are working weekends to earn a living, we have super fans like this...
