Under Davey. 2007-08, got to 4th then dropped like a stone due to the inexperienced, unbalanced squad and staff. I know we were doing pretty well in 2011 but we all had that feeling the best players were going to jump ship.
I've got a feeling it'll be different this season though. I know it's optimistic but I think signing Hammill was vital. This is because I imagine he's advised our talented players to stay, develop and not chase the dollar signs (eg Hourihane). We have to take it one game at a time and make sure we play to our strengths. For example we know we have more stamina than the majority of other teams. Also, not set ourselves up to stop the opposition like other managers have. We have to play the Barnsley attack with flair and freedom way. Morning rant over.

I'm sure we set off quite well in our first season back under Richie. We were in the top 8 and had a game on TV which would have put us second I think. But we got hammered

thats how I remember it anyway, could be wrong

Was it 2007/08 as well when in a months time we were drew at Charlton and dropped to 6th?

20 years ago this week we won at Man City and went top.

    Table wise, you are right.

I was in the 17000, yes 17000 away Barnsley fans at Anfield, when we drew with the European Champions.

It feels like it's the first time we're heading back to those days since then.

A bloody long way to go, but let's keep the faith

We were up in the play off places or thereabouts under Hill just before we played Ipswich at home on Sky l think, that was in December.

You may be thinking of my above post, I think a win would have put us in the play offs and it would have been our fifth on the bounce.

I can remember us winning our first two away games that season under Ritchie (at Hull & Colchester). However, the only home victories I recall were at home to Wolves in the September and Leeds in November, prior to him being sacked.

The cup run in 2008 knocked our focus. I am sure that we were still top half at Christmas. Then I think we won more FA cup games than league games in the remainder of the season.

I remember going to Burnley away. Getting lost and only arriving just before half time. We were 2-0 up when we got there. Our fans singing the Eieio song. We ended up losing 4-2, I think Gifton Noel-Williams (remember him?) scored 4 goals that evening which I think was half of his entire total for Burnley, and that was the start of a bad run, which eventually cost Andy Ritchie his job.

I was there, it was actually 5-2, we were 2-0 up and Jon Harley, formerly of Sheffield United, scored a free kick just before half time to pull one back, and they battered us 2nd half. Noel Williams was actually on the transfer list during that game, it was well publicised.
