I think seeing where we are in January would be the prudent thing to do. Right now he's worth far more to us than any transfer fee we're likely to be offered.

Nick Barnes, Sunderland based Journo just reported he's heard from 'sources' that Sunderland after Hourihane. No idea what his sources are, but there you go

We already cashed in mawson and got the stones money what we need isn't money it's players that we know can perform at this point. You might be pleased to see us relegated with a tidy sum sat in the bank I can't share that view.

Not to his standard though. Until he came to Oakwell we'd not been threatening at either for years. At times it was so bad that it was hard to be confident when we had a free kick or corner because we got used to nothing coming from them.

Not any player in the team can take free kicks and corners like conor though. His number of assists, goals paired with his new-founded defensive abilities are irreplaceable at present. Would be senseless cashing in.

It would be interesting to see the number of goals we have scored from set pieces in each of the last ten seasons. The two full seasons we have had with Conor is probably way ahead of the previous eight seasons combined.

Absolutely! Conor can put a ball on a sixpence.

The thing i wonder is if Conor moves up would he be another where small fish in big pond syndrome effects him? What if he wasn't taking all the free kicks and corners, what if he had a couple of poor games and was a bench warmer. Think his form is so good because everything goes through him at Barnsley, he plays every game, is our leader, is a fans hero.

If we could offer him terms to come close to what he wants, it would make not just playing sense in we keep our captain and best player, but makes financial sense. If we paid him £15k per week that's only 2.3m over 3 years (and could sell him for a high sum of required). To replace Conor Hourihane? At his current form and level? A bloody fortune.

taking the emotion out of it. it's around £5m for a a player who will go for free at the end of the season. and he will go. i think that would be a very tempting offer. i'd be chuffed if he stayed, but i wouldn't be surprised if we took that kind of deal.

    Why Sunderland though?

he would be just buying into as season long relegation battle that they are by no means favourites to win, it would also be madness on our part if we had no replacement lined up

With Conor in the team we might be challenging for promotion, what price can we put on that?

Can new contracts be signed anytime or does it have to be within the transfer window?

I'm with Marc as much as I love the bloke. That's a lot of money for someone with 9 months left on his contract.

IMO the only way he will stay is if we get promoted or he has a massive slump in form and turns into Sean McClare.

If morale dropped and we went down and lost the £5M turnover again it wouldn't look like a lot of money?

We won't go down if he goes. In my opinion anyway we have far too many talented players and would get in a replacement who probably wouldn't be as good yet but we would still have Scowen who has been in blinding form, Marley, Armstrong, Hammill, Kent, Robbo, Davies and the rest. There's about 6-7 teams that are definitely worse than us in this division.

If the club has excepted a bid of 4.5 that's silly in my opinion because we can charge more than that (not saying I want him to go).
